    "Totally Straight Fags"... offensive?

    Hi Guys
I find myself dropping by because I'm kinda curious about something.

I notice that one of ARS's new BYOT sites is called "Totally Straight Fags"

My initial thought was: What the...? Because I've always thought that using the word "fag" on a gay site was a distinct no-no. Actually, I thought using the word "fag" at all is bad, but that's another thread...

Has this changed or is the guy who made this site just chosen the wrong word? It just set off my radar for some reason and got me curious as to what's going on here.

    Thanks for filling me in

The word fag or faggot is used widely by gay people in america as a positive word. Just like dyke is a insult to some, and a loving term to others. No there is no such thing as a bad word, ingnorant people makes words bad. So for gay people to agree that the word is bad we are only giving into it and giving the ignorant people who made it bad more power. I personaly love the word fag. But to each his own.

Karen in my opinion, youre right. It is offensive.
You can call an african american person the n word and they can say that they choose not to give that word power, but deep inside it's still offensive.

Ive blacklisted sites like TheHornyFaggot because I dont want my surfers getting slapped in the face with the word Fag when visiting my site.

As gay people we get kicked in the stomach all the time by the media and whatnot, and to me adult entertainment is about making people enjoy themselves.

There are some guys who are into S&M scenes and want to be called faggot but they can go find those fantasies on their own. Not on my traffic.

I personally hate the word fag.
I dont know if you've ever been outside a gay bar with your friends and had a bunch of guys walk by and yell "Faggot" at you.
I have, and we didnt sit around smiling saying "wow, fag is a positive word", we were pissed.

Well any word can be used in a positive or negitive way. I guess I'm spoiled by living in a big city. Like I said to each their own. I still don't see what the big deal is, it's just a word. words can't have that much power unless you give them power yourself. I could care less if someone called me a faggot and ment it in a hatefull way, I'm not gonna get upset or loose any sleep over it. I mean come on, we are all adults here. I have not gotten upset over someone calling me a name since grade school. I think this country is getting a littel to PC if you ask me.

I've seen and heard the word used in a bunch of different ways.

The negative uses are obvious. But lots of gay people I know have used it to identify other gay people (or themselves). It wasn't a compliment or an insult; it was just a slang term.

It's true that the word only has whatever power you choose to attribute to it, and the context it is used in also matters. But I wouldn't create a website using it. There's too much individual interpretation. Some won't care. Some won't like it.

It's a curious title, though. Some might want to check it out because of it. That's probably the goal.

The only time I ever use that word is with friends.. in private.. if they do something "UBER GAY"..

and I'll jokingly say "You're SUCH a fag".

    and then we laugh.

I would NEVER use it in public. And yeah, it's totally offensive and just plain lame.

    Karen,

IMO the word "fag" is like the word "******." Only a "fag" can call another guy a "fag."

"Totally Straight Fags" is IMO another one of those ill-conceived paysites created by a largely straight company that knows little about what gay surfers want. Ever since the huge success of "Bait Bus" where "straight guys" were duped into having sex with gay guys, straight porn companies have been falling all over themselves trying to come up with the next big seller.

For some reason people creating new paysites think that the only thing gay men are interested in is: twinks, straight guys jerking off, "straight" guys duped into having gay sex, and gay guys dying to suck a straight man's cock. Apparently, we have no interest in anything else ... good thing my lover's straight or I wouldn't be having any sex at all.

I think these sites are largely created to market to straight men who haven't quite come to terms with the fact that they also like dick. Real gay surfers can spot these bogus sites within two seconds.

    Cheers

It is a very offensive word that is still being used to put gay men in their place - ie you're not a real man, you're just a worthless faggot. Using it as a part of a site name is crass.

I have to agree with you.. and I think that THAT's the real issue.

I have no problem with the word, per se, but when used as a site name in that "He's less of a man" or "He deserves to be ridiculed" way... it's over the line. I'd never promote a site like that... but then, I find that those sites never last very long, anyway.

I agree 100% with Jasun, it's just plain wrong. ARS should be ashamed of themselves.

another example of straight webmasters doing gay sites and getting it wrong. I mean beyond the offensive part its just bad business to use a word like that on a site for gay men.
