http://www.namecheap.com - $8.88, and lots of webmasters have recommended them to me

http://www.domains410.com - another that comes recommended (although by less people), and they charge $10 for one domain, then have a sliding scale for bulk discounts. you can get domains under $7 if you prepay for a bunch of them.

Ya gotta be careful because all registrars are not equal. I had one that failed to send out renewal notices and then promptly deleted non-renewed domains the DAY they expired. Lost one domain to a squatter and $500 later got it back. I've also had registrars that screwed up root nameserver entries, had insecure transfer policies allowing domains to be hijacked, lots of other problems.

Registrars all pay the responsible registries for each domain registered. For .com and .net, it's $6 per domain that the registrar has to pay to the registry (in that case, network solutions). Afilias, who runs .org and .info, charges the registrars less.

So... if you're getting domain registration for $7 or $7.50, the registrar is only making a buck or so on each registration... not anywhere near enough to have any sort of staffing and infrastructure to support a business model that provides good service and technical backup.

I'd vote for GoDaddy or Enom (wholesale account). Both are very large, have real support people you can get on the phone, and charge around $8.-$9 for com/net/org domains. If you register 500 domains, the cost difference is maybe $500-1000, which you could easily lose if you have one major problem with a single domain.

I was with Hostway before for hosting before, they were a pretty good company. I never used their domain services. We started doing everything so we moved everything over to us. Afterall, we are selling it - so we might as well use it ourselves, right?

We have done some bulk registration for about 6.99 for 100 domain names. We would have loved to become a registrar, but just did not have that money (yet - LOL) to put up for that extra convenience.

No worries - that only happens to the best of us LOL. The offer still stands for the 100. And then any others, would be about $6.75
