WASHINGTON - More than a week after news of its existence leaked, a bill seeking a 25 percent excise tax on adult entertainment purchased online and the imposition of mandatory, “certified” age verification of adult website visitors was introduced Wednesday by nine Democratic Senators. Concurrently, two members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced companion legislation there.

“The Internet has become our new American Main Street, and it’s literally transforming the experience of growing up in America in a way much different from the way parents of today grew up,” Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), author of The Internet Safety and Child Protection Act of 2005, told reporters during a press conference Wednesday morning. “Many Internet service providers have taken significant steps to provide parents with tools to protect their children from inappropriate material online, and they should be commended. But sadly, many adult-oriented websites in today’s online world are not only failing to keep products unsuitable for children from view, but are also pushing those products in children’s faces. And it’s time that we stand up and say enough is enough.”

Lincoln said her legislation would help relieve the anxieties experienced by parents due to the lack of control many feel they have over what their children view online. She said it’s time the costs of protecting children online shift from the American taxpayer to “the actual purveyors of online pornography.” The Senate bill is cosponsored by Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), and Kent Conrad (D-N.D.). The House version was introduced by Reps Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.).

I wonder how much funding the FSC will need to 'fight' this for their members?

Oh, so the Dems introduced this bill. Figures... they are trying to jump on the holy-roller bandwagon to try and get the conservative vote. Good fucking luck losers. I'm voting Libertarian from now on!

A report on the Third Way web site touts a system called VerifyME. They posted a screen cap of the login page. It requires a person to enter all the information on a drivers license or state ID so it can cross check it with a database. That means we'll have to start asking surfers to give us their first, middle, and last names; street addresses; phone numbers; dates of birth; and their ID# before we can show them "pornography." (How we define "pornography" will be a hole other can of worms.)

You can visit there web site here: https://www.kidsheriff.com/version2/...06894534729033

They mention the Patriot Act in their intro. The ACLU better come down on this bullshit legislation like a ton of bricks.

Notice their a bit sketchy when it comes to providing information explaining how this system works. You have to set up an account. To hell with that.

    Here's a copy of VerifyME's privacy policy:

:boo: oh yeah they look like a reputable company --- hmmmm....

According to their site: "VerifyME instantly confirms the information against public record data of US and international citizens."

Hmmm I could be wrong but as for Canadians I don't beleive that drivers license info and D.O.B info is publicly available info. I'd have to double check on that though.

As for street addresses well I see multiple problems with that as I'm not the registered home owner for my house or condo. And I can see that being a problem for a lot of people.

VerifyME was created by a "political technology company" that collects information on registered voters so it can share this info with political organizations. The company is called Aristotle.

You can read about it here: http://aristotle.com/page.asp?page_id=home

This just doesn't look right to me. It looks like the government is turning us into spies by forcing us to use this software. This part bothers me more than the 25% tax.

Yet another reason to get your business the hell out of the USA.

I am looking forward to the increase in business to chilihost.nl and the decrease in competition to our hunkmoney paysites :groovy:

    cheers,
    Luke
