What does 'Gay Webmaster' mean to you?

To me, "gay Webmaster' means someone who works in the gay market, selling to gay men. I know other think of it as a webmaster that is Gay, regardless of the type of marketing he does.

Which is it for you?

1. Webmaster that sells to gay men.
or
2. Webmaster that is gay.

Ah.. the old and tired arguement "Do you have to BE gay to SELL gay?".

I think anyone who's working in the gay market can be considered a gay webmaster.

Makes sense to me, anyway.

I think it depends on how the term is used myself.

It could be meant as 'Joe Blow is a gay webmaster' meaning that 'Joe Blow' is gay or, it could also mean that 'Joe Blow' markets to gay surfers.

I actually found myself asking the same thing a couple of years ago except, instead of 'gay webmaster' it was, 'Female Webmasters'.

Does Female Webmasters mean a group of webmasters who are women or, a group of webmasters that market to the female surfer?

I personally think it can be both, but it depends on the way the term is used.

if someone says to me they are a gay webmaster I think they are a webmaster who is gay, cuz I don't know ANY straight webmasters that would say they are a gay webmaster, they would say something like "I am an adult webmaster with gay sites".

luke - i tell people i'm a gay webmaster, even though i'm a bi woman. i must admit, though, that some people are confused... but fuck 'em. i see people talk to webmasters with asian sites and call them asian webmasters even though they're not asian.

A gay webmaster would be a webmaster who happens to be gay just like
an uncircumsized webmaster is a webmaster who happens to be uncircumsized.

An open-minded web master, or individual, whom promotes, or works with, material from the specific niche.

In keeping with my usual prickish ways: A term dubbed by web masters so put-off by anything 'gay' (such as homophobic men whom simply refuse to classify lesbians as homosexuals) that they had to add a sub-category to the industry they work in, so they could be or feel 'safe'.

I do not see other niches or walks of life being pigeonholed (anime, ebony, lesbian, anal, dp etc).

So does that make me an: Italian-big-dick-teen-heterosexual-fetish-gay-interracial-asian-privacy software-lesbian-web master?
( Many would choke on that mouthful

Patti, I think its a bit different in that you are bi and have an open mind. But seriously, go over to GFY or some other obviously straight board and ask this question there and see the responses you will get!
