    Acacia Has Stepped Up Again

Been reading a few posts on various boards as well as getting a couple of ICQ's and PM's about Acacia contacting adult companies again asking for license revenues.

Might be time to buy some of their stock LOL

Has anyone on GWW had anything in the mail from Acacia?

    Regards,

    Lee

Does anyone know if they are only going after USA-based webmasters, or does it include webmasters from around the world?

    cheers,
    Luke

I like how they send out these letters to everyone asking for money with no signature required or anything required so there is no proof they ever sent them to anyone. I will never pay them a penny.

    Oh Gosh! Not them again!

Anyone know what the latest update on the Markman hearings is?

Is this just a gamble and cash grab by Acacia to try to get some money before a ruling?

Are they trying to promote the idea that the hearings are going in their favor at this point?

We have not received any mail at this point, but we got a bunch on the initial rounds.... which i bet means we'll get this one too.

The cable companies got lumped in with the adult companies.

there is a hearing the first week of Sept that will probably be bad for Acacia so they are trying to get people before that date.

Acacia is also not allowed to sue anyone until the pending lawsuits are finished. Which will probably be at least a year from now.

Yup, and each has been redirected to the appropriate department ... sanitation.

We've not received anything yet (Europe), and I don't think we will. Even if we do, the EU is a much different beast to deal with with regard to propritary technologies and intellectual property.

We did not hear of this problem till an hour when we tried to obtain access to demo some gay stuff at Web-Legal and Dave told us what was going on. Did a search online and found the following links from the Klixx mag:-

    http://www.klixxx.com/archive/bermaninterview.shtml

And a response from the CEO of Home Grown Video, Spike Goldberg, who rebuts Acacia's claims to this 'patent'. He has some very sound arguments, we think

Makes for interesting reading, don't you think?
