Anything new on the porn tax?

I haven't heard anything on this in about 3 weeks. What is the scoop on the porn tax?

    Thanks,
    Mark

No real news as far as I've heard, but I've been following the non-adult blogs to get "civilian" opinion. Based on that, I'd say it's in trouble. There doesn't seem to be any real support for it. The consensus seems to be that it won't accomplish anything and that it'll lead to more internet taxes. There's even a heavy amount of skepticism from conservatives who tend to see it as another example of tax-and-spend liberalism.

As 2257 goes, so goes the porn tax because it defines "pornographic web site" as a site that needs 2257 docs. We'll probably start hearing more official news about this when we get a ruling on 2257.

That is just a bill that was introduced, and a photo op by Democrats to demonstarte that they seek the "Pro Family" vote. There is certainly a long way for it to go.

That was a Senate bill carried by Senators. Well revenue bills have to start in the House, so it would have to wait for a tax and revenue bill to pass the House first before it can be eligible for consideration.

The reason Sen. Blanche Lincoln is carrying that bill is because she is on the Senate Finance Committee, which is the high powered Senate committee that writes tax law. Still the person who would probably ultimately decide if that bill should be taken seriously is the committee chair, who is Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican. In fact that would be the person who to "lobby" .... Grassley and then his counterpart in the House Bill Thomas.
