    Technical question

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot.

    Here is my probleme.

I have two identical laptops. One can access the net but the other can't.

I'm using the exact same connection to my cable modem. IE: I take the line out of the one computer and put it in the other.

    The modem checks out.
The other computer has NO problems.

    What is going wrong?

it could be loads of things, first I would check your networking configurations are setup the same, then make sure both have the same set of drivers for the cable modem. If you have your original installation disk / cd, I would re-run the setup program from it on the one that does not work, thats prolly the easiest way. And if you are not technically minded, contact your ISP and get their techies to walk you through the process.

    cheers,

Just curious, go to Start - Run, type in cmd and OK. At the command prompt, type in ipconfig & <enter> - do you get anything - if so - please paste information and make sure to let us know if it is from the good computer / bas computer (best if you paste both)

if you do not get much on the bad computer, type in ipconfig /release & <enter> and then type in ipconfig /renew & <enter>

    OK the good computer.

    Connection-specific DNS suffix....... :Noos.fr
    IP address................................... :85.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Subnet mask................................ :255.255.254.0
    Default gateway........................... :85.169.206.1

    The bad computer

    NOTHING!

it sounds like the good computer is on a static IP address, you will have to setup the other computer (there are no bad computers!!!) with the same IP address info. To do this you will have to get your tcp/ip properties:
right click on My Network Places, select properties
double click on the adapter name
    click properites
highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click properties
you will then see a box with tcp info, just copy the addresses (IP, subnet, gateway, dns) from the good one to the other one.

good luck, let us know if it works

    cheers
