OK.. Help me with my first webdesign

I decided to try my hand at web design a little while back.

(About a 1.5 years ago.. I was bored and thought I would move back to canada)

But as you can see... It looks like shit.

None of the photos/words/etc line up.

And I thought I would look at it again and see what I did wrong. Probleme is I have no fracking clue.

    So where do I begin?

    Hi Ya

Well I'd suggest that you go with a fixed width table and use actually resized images rather than using the image tag to resize them.

I'd keep your fixed table width to under 800 pixels wide and insure all of your columns along with images don't exceed that total.

For example if you use an image that is 900 pixels wide and put it in a table that is 770 pixels, you'll stretch the table... or if you have 3 columns and the table width is set to 770 but your columns add up to 900 you'll have a distorted table.

I'd read up on html and tables if you are unfamiliar with it as well before you get into it. The other thing is to get a template and tear it apart. See how they do it and try to apply that to your own design thought.

Read some tutorials that are out there for added help on the technical stuff.

I have one up Here At Kblogger that might help a bit.

I would suggest that you hire someone to do this for you. If you think about it, it will take you a lot of time to learn how to do this properly and your time is valuable, so why not just hire someone to do a basic design for you instead? you will save time, frustration and will end up with a much nicer site!

    cheers,
    Luke

I've been trying to hire someone for 5 years. And believe it or not....
Despite the fact that the site is a mess. It's still the only completed site I've got and I had to do it myself.

I just went another round with someone that is just trying to screw me out of money. (I can spot them now a mile away)

In the end, I would love to hire someone. But if you look at crazyhammy.com and Kelly-steele.com ---- Uncompleted, no members aree, nothing has been done on either one in 6 months and the webmaster has disappeared.

So what the fuck? I should just read the books and maybe in another 5 years I'll have my site.

why not ask us working webmasters for recommendations? we know people who actually complete sites, and are very responsible.

bec is a regular on this board, and a goddess, and you can see her design site here http://www.eroticbydesign.com/

webinc is an industry standard, and they have made a number of designs for my clients. they only charge you when the site is done, and you can see their portfolio here http://www.webinc.com/website-design.html

the guy who did these tours charges around $200 per tour.

there are lots more designers out there who are known and loved by webmasters. i have a list of them, by price, etc. i'm sure every webmaster does.

I sent Bec an email and I hope she gets back to me soon.

I really hope no one things I am negative or trying to insult anyone. It has been a very long uphill fight to get a website working. I'm out thousands of dollars for un-completed or botched work.

That in itself wouldn't bother me but that money has come from either Kelly or myself earning it on our backs. And you know when you have to kiss people you wouldn't walk across the street to spit on... You tend to become negative over time.

So I am truely sorry if the tone of my messages is negative. Honestly I am.

No worries, mate, I did not take this as negative at all. And we are a close community here, when someone asks for help or suggestions we all like to pitch in!

    cheers,
    Luke
