What's one marketing tip ...
that you'd give to a new webmaster. The one thing that you found really helped push you to a new level.

have a plan and stick to it. I have seen way too many webmasters think of good ideas, start them and neve finish through on them. If you write down a plan and stick to it you will be much more successful.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?
Start out with simple sits before going in to the more complex types.
Free sites > AEN / AVS > TGP Galleries
That is imho, how the natural progression of a new webmaster should be, learn to market on free sites before jumping in to those sites that can potentially end up costing you more than you'll make.
In essence, dont run before you have learnt to walk.

I am straight, but my ass is gay
i actually did better on AVS sites, not so much selling AVS passes but upsell to sponsors.
I dont know about one advice, but definitly learn to how to sell to the surfer.

Words paint the real picture
Keep your expectations realistic and not buy into the hype.
Too many come into the industry expecting huge returns for minimal outlay of capital and time, and get disappointed because they bought into the hype.
But that's basically what I'd start out with.. telling them to be realistic & keep it simple.

I will admit I got started about 3 years ago thinking, "here comes the easy money". I soon learned this is not how it is. I worked my ass off for months and struggled to make a sale. Mosting using tgp galleries. I would make new designs and thought everyone will love my design. Turns out the more simple the design the more sales I have...
I still continue to work hard and build friendships with webmasters. I write down all my ideas and set goals for myself. I usually meet or exceed my goals.
I suppose thats the best advice I would give is to write down all your ideas and set goals for yourself and there is no such thing as "easy money".

Many of us that start out do find ourselves having to buy content for galleries and avs sites ... and something that made a lot of sense and helped stretch those available quarters was a thread we had on here sometime ago that talked about looking at a set we were considering buying and applying every possible "niche" we could think of that it'd work in.
For instance, you have a set of a guy jacking off ...
Jackoff content is probably your first thought for where it can be used. But if you really study the set it may also fit other categories if you adjust which pics you use, such as:
Amateur
Porn Star
Straight
Ethnic (ebony, latino, asian, etc)
Outdoor
Indoor
Big Cock
Uncut
Cut
Jock, Hunk or Stud
Twink, Mature
Other features would be clothing -
would he fit a suit site, or working men, and are there enuff pics for a sock or foot gallery or underwear?
Seeing ways of reusing your content can save you a lot of start up money.
