NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Jet Set Productions has signed Jason Adonis to an exclusive contract to bottom in an upcoming production, GAYVN learned today. This will be the first time the gay-XXX superstar has bottomed.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled," Mark Hovanec, executive in charge of production at Jet Set, told GAYVN. "Events like this don’t happen often in our industry. We are billing this as a ‘world-exclusive’ and treating it as such.”

Hovanec said that a director is being lined up right now, and filming will begin as soon as Adonis' schedule permits.

When reached for comment, Adonis said, “I’ve been approached by many studios in the past, but Jet Set has always been sensitive to my aspirations. This is a big move for me, and Jet Set addressed all my personal and professional concerns. This is going to be a great production! I couldn’t be happier. Jet Set and I have big plans for the future.”

Hovanec declined to divulge specific details about the production — such as who the top will be — saying, “There’s a lot more to this deal that’s very exciting. We look forward to sharing the information with you at the appropriate time.”

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Gay-porn superstar Jason Adonis told GAYVN this morning that his deal to bottom in a Jet Set movie is off.

"We had contractual difficulties about the choice of director and how much input I would have in the production," Adonis said, "and I decided that the circumstances were not optimal for me to continue with this production."

Though Adonis did not rule out bottoming in a future production, he told GAYVN that he was going to take the rest of the year off and "start fresh in 2006."

This is COMPLETELY over-generalizing, but I remember a magazine once humorously pointing out what it meant to be a total top and/or a total bottom. It was something like:

Total Tops: Gay guys with masculinity and control issues -- in other words, self-hating, lazy bums

Total Bottoms: Emasculated momma's boys with inferiority complexes

I always had to chuckle when I read those things, b/cuz there is a bit of truth to them, you have to admit. Most total tops I know--with SOME exceptions--tend to be assholes with MAJOR control issues who like to boss people around. Most total bottoms I know frustrate the hell out of me, b/cuz I like both sexual partners to be on the same playing field, and damn it, sometimes I want the other guy to get a little aggressive with ME for a change!

Again, I'm overgeneralizing, but that has also been my experience to a large degree--with a few exceptions.

It's interesting to note that total tops and bottoms didn't really exist in porn until the early 1980s, when gay-for-pay porn stars came along. Before that, MOST gay porn (with the exception of perhaps Colt) featured models who were ALL versatile and who flip-fucked to their hearts' content. Even the biggest, roughest and toughest-looking guys got fucked back in the '70s.

I firmly believe that the boom of '80s porn (and directors like Matt Sterling, who glorified gay-for-pay models who would only top and not kiss) has contributed in HUGE ways to the evolution of men as total tops and bottoms. It's one theory that I will be examining in my next book, The SeXXX-Files: The History of Gay Porn and Its Influence on Gay Male Sexuality. Should be a fun chapter to write!
