NCHS New Sexual behavior stats out: 2.3% of men Gay

    Highlights of findings

Among adult males 25-44 years of age, 97 percent have had sexual contact with an opposite-sex partner in their lives

Three percent of males 15-44 years of age have had oral or anal sex with another male in the last 12 months

The proportion who had same-sex contact in their lifetimes was 6 percent for males

90 percent of men 18-44 years of age responded that they think of themselves as heterosexual, 2.3 percent of men answered homosexual, 1.8 percent bisexual, 3.9 percent “something else,” and 1.8 percent did not answer the question

Survey participants were asked if they were sexually attracted to males, to females, or to both. Among men 18-44 years of age, 92 percent said they were attracted “only to females,” and 3.9 percent, “mostly” to females.

Do you think these results accurately reflect your experience, or those you know? Do you really think only 2.3% of the population identifies as Gay?

it's pretty much what I've been saying for years.

but all that means is that we're a really small percentage, and should be REALLY proud of what we've accomplised.

no, i don't think it's accurate - but that doesn't surprise me as this study was made to prove their point, not to show the facts.

    I tend to agree.

If you look at the numbers 92 percent of men said they were attracted “only to females” yet the combined numbers of those who identify as homosexual and bisexual is 4.1%

Then they have the dubious 3.9 percent “something else,” and 1.8 percent did not answer the question.

I'm not a scientist but it seems odd that they give the option to not answer the question, or identify being attracted to "something else", yet still count the questionaire in their statistics.

Also... according to this study there is only a 2.3% Gay population, but a population of 3.9% that is attracted to something other then men & women.

Those numbers would probably be fairly accurate, in a population of football fans.

I can't back it up with a link, but "read somewhere" there's between 8 and 12 % gays/bis among males.
    - And the percentage of bis among women is > 20 !!!

    I agree.

It was probably targeted towards straight guys only. I dont think its accurate.

The US scientists used to talk about 10 % . But they really "over did it". The gay popultaion is still a considerable market thought

My gut feeling is that around 15% of guys are at least open to being with another guy if just the right one comes along (which may or may not happen). This number is likely higher with the younger, and lower with the older.

These studies are bullshit. They don't take into account the totally closeted, open but cautious or the changes in society over the past 25 years.

We as homosexual individuals wish that a larger percentage of the population was gay because that would give us power. :hmmph:

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Well based on that 2.3% figure, that means there are roughly 68,018,851 gay persons in the U.S overall based on the current consensus figures available for the US as a whole.

Now also bear in mind, that there are roughly, 1.05 males to every female in the United States too.

I cant find the link but i also read somewhere a week or two back that the rate of 'homosexuality' is growing at roughly 1% a year so, within 50 years, there will be more gay persons living in the US than their straight counterparts.

In essence, we have to wait 50 years before things will change for the better

But, lets also not forget that 97.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot :goofy:

    Regards,

    Lee

You have a funny calculator Lee. That number is only 6,801,851 gay persons... not 68,000,000. I'm so glad I am partnered! The dating pool isn't as big as I had thought. Lol

if almost 98% of men are straight, how do we explain the large number of men who - when incarcerated for a fair period of time - have sex with other men? my friend was raped by several different guys while he was in, and most of them were married and consider themselves very straight. they would never admit to anyone - not on a survey or to another human being - that they would have gay sex.

what about college str8 boys who actually do watch str8 porn together and j/o? my neighbors do this, but somehow that is not in any way considered gay by them.

and i suspect if you get those guys drunk enough, a guy could suck their dicks easily enough. horniness often takes precedence over sexual preference

I suppose that there is black and white and shades of gay... er, um grey. But given a choice between sex with men or women, most of those questionable guys are going to choose women as sex partners.

true, but a guy who forces another guy to suck his dick isn't all that str8 in my book. he could have jacked off thinking about the playmate of the month.

ditto guys who jack off with groups of friends - come ON. they may consider themselves anything they like, but that's some mighty bisexual behavior.

i can consider myself the queen of northern america, but it won't make it so. i know lots of people who consider themselves very honest, but i've heard them lie. what people consider themselves to be and what they are are often two unrelated things. a study showing what people consider themselves to be is a study of nothing except that people will lie to fit in or to feel that they are good people. and didn't we know that already?

I think anyone would consider that rape. And rape is not sex, it's about power.
