So VOD Is Currently The New 'Trend' In The Industry..

What do you think the next fad will be?

In the last few years we've seen a heap of stuff come and go for instance, about 4 years ago, those 'evidence eraser' software products were all the rage for webmasters to promote, a year or so later, we had all those shitty '$1 sites' then we had 'DVD Rentals' next was the advent of the 'toolbar' program, now we [the industry] seem to be on a VOD / PPV craze.

Where do you think the next logical step is going to be so far as the latest craze in the industry goes? Do you think we are going to start seeing more stuff from a year or two coming back or will we see something else come along?

I think with the current state of the motion picture industry, we're going to see more methods of delivering 'portable' porn come to the forefront, UMD porn movies, cell phone delivery, that type of thing.

What are your thoughts on whats going to be the next big craze that everyone will start copying?

    Regards,

    Lee

You skipped over a real craze... reality sites. And what the heck is a "toolbar program"? If you mean google, yahoo, etc. browser toolbars, I hardly consider that an adult internet craze.

Well reality sites, on the face of it, are still relatively new to the industry and, they seem to have actually stayed the course, not fizzed out and died within a month or two.

Toolbar programs, you [the surfer] download a IE toolbar and it contains links to porn sites on it and goes to a PPC adult search engine.

    Lee

Hmm, I must have missed that fad. The only toolbars I've heard of are from non-adult companies. What adult companies used those types of programs. And more importantly, did the surfers actual download them?

    Back to topic...
I think we will see a real resurgence to AVS proprams that actually verify age... if and when that becomes possible.

I seems like every time porn is mentioned in politcs, the politicians demand age verification. A year or so ago, T*TI was boasting that they had the only actual age verification system in development. But nothing has been mentioned in a long time. So maybe that's dead.

But if someone was able to develop a way to do this, it would have a major impact in the market. And they would not need to restrict it to Age Verification for AVS sites. TGP's, freesites and paysite tours could use it to keep adult material from all minors.

    HUGE! I'm telling ya, HUGE!

the government is talking about a government sponsored avs now... it's an existing one, and really crappy. i can't remember the name of it, but if you search like mad, it's in there.

avs's can't really restrict minors because of kids who have their own cards, and also kids who steal their parents' cards.

Wanna bet that governmental age verification will by outsourced to Halliburton?

I think this is what basschick is referring to... http://www.verifymyidentification.com/

actually the trend at the moment is toward catching mainstream traffic from blogs and rss feeds... I am seeing an outrageous growth in adult blogging and some sites are now doing 15k a day and more...
rss is a powerful tool.. and XML language is kickass...
Funny, how I speak to so many program owners and webmasters who are so unfamiliar with rss and xml and the possible applications.

Promoting sponsors through bogs is where its at for the moment... lots of traffic available...

as far as products are concerned... gimmicks, new catches... well I can see selling subscriptions to dvb sites or dvb TV... Thats whats next... Digital Video Broadcasting.... mark my words in the coming years... XXX will move to dvb and we will be selling all DVB subscriptions.

I agree that this is the hottest thing since the invention of sliced bread for traffic - and I for one am forcing myself to find the time to learn how to use it.

You talked about a lot of products that don't really exist anymore ... VOD will probably still be there in 5 years ...

In its current form, no it wont.

With the proliferation of 'paysites' giving away the same movies you can find inside most PPV theatres, why would a surfer pay per minute for two or three movies when for the same price, they can get access to thousands?

Dont get me wrong, the demand for movie content will always be there but i just dont see PPV business model lasting very long without some changes.

An example of what i mean is the toolbar program (as i mentioned that in my original post) they are still around however, they are considerably different than they were when the craze hit the industry, Gamma Cash's Toolbar program for example, went from being porn based, to mainstream in less than 18 months. I think we'll see a similar change happen with PPV sites.

    Regards,

    Lee
