Blake rescued in raid on bedroom

A stunned Blake Reynolds said he was "OK" after armed detectives smashed their way into the bedroom yesterday where the 14-year-old had allegedly been held prisoner for almost three weeks - ending a terrifying wait for his family who were starting to fear the worst.

Last night, major crime squad detectives were expected to charge two men, aged 41 and 44, with one count each of deprivation of liberty. The pair could face other charges.

Seven days ago, Blake's mother Gail Reynolds sobbed as she pleaded for information about her son's whereabouts.

Yesterday, she shed tears of joy as she celebrated her son's rescue with relatives at Cannington police station.

She said her son was smiling and crying as he gave her a hug.

"You begin to wonder after nearly three weeks," Ms Reynolds said. "(On Sunday), I psyched myself up to say that he had to walk in the door today and he had to be home and safe and well today. We're just all so pleased.

"We would like to thank all the police, all the media, the State Emergency Service, the water police, anybody else out there who has helped with the inquiry."

She said the family planned a big welcome home for Blake.

"We're going to give him lots of hugs and kisses."

Detectives believe Blake was snatched as he walked near Kelmscott train station minutes after he saw his sister Natalie Beven stopped at traffic lights on Denny and Railway avenues about 3pm on August 30.

When Blake's father Wayne Reynolds called him about 6.15pm that night, he cried for help and said he wanted to come home before the call was abruptly ended.

It is believed the investigation led detectives to the rundown home on Albany Highway late last week.

The emotion of the moment brought hardened detectives close to tears. Major crime squad Supt Jeff Byleveld said investigators were overjoyed and police were not unaffected by the emotions. "What we have just witnessed with the family makes it all worthwhile," Supt Byleveld said.

"Blake's father was the first one to see him, Blake ran to his dad, jumped in his arms, kissed him and hugged him, dad was over the moon," Sgt Bryson said.

"I guess I stood here every night and I said I hope Blake's alive, obviously he is and that is great."

Specialist child interview experts spoke to Blake last night after he was checked by doctors.

The two men are expected to appear in Armadale Magistrate's Court today.
