    The Wrath Of God

I got a big full color booklet today in the mail describing why Katrina was a result of all the evils of our country, and how the end of the world as at hand. It was of course all a long-winded advertisement for books, cds, and dvds. I don't understand how these people can have no consience at all! Selling people their fears is one thing, hollywood does it all the time, but capitalizing on people's religious faith is disgusting beyond belief in my opinion. How could something like this be more innocent and unworthy of scrutiny than porn? I would really enjoy some anti-profiting off of religion laws.

These are the same people who have more faith in their Ministries than in their God.

    Do you expect anything less?

When people are allowed to indulge these fantasies of a man in a white coat watching everything everyone does this is the result. Acknowledging them through this presidency was like telling a schizo they might be sane :francais:

In the earlier days of the AIDS epidemic, religious fundamentalists argued that the disease was God's punishment of promiscuous homosexuals. What I never understood is how that applied to babies born with AIDS. Was God punishing them too? If not, why was the same disease a "punishment" of one group and a "tragedy" for another?

I'm sure if San Francisco gets hit with The Big One, we'll hear those some people saying God was punishing the city for its liberal, God-forsaken ways. Though what happens if a church in SF were to collapse with worshippers inside? Or a hospital crumbled with expectatnt mothers inside?

I do believe in God but a wise friend told me once if I thought God was speaking directly to me, telling me what to do, I should get a second opinion.

Um, what country do you live in? LOL! Mr. Bush has been doing this since day one. Ever notice how the terror alert goes to code orange anytime there's some political issue he wants to steer the public away from? Nothing spells "fear" like religion.

Religion is ALWAYS been about ruling through fear and intimidation, and for the last few hundred years has been about separating stupid, scared, weak-minded people from their money.

I'm amazed that there hasn't been MORE groups saying that Katrina was about God getting even with gays and that if you don't give your money, he's going to get you too.

Oh judgemental groups have - in general. Why not substitute the term "religious groups" for "environmental groups?" Both operate as converted faithful who have grim predictions as a consequence of human behavior they find as sinful and improper.

Invocations of God regarding inclement weather is very close to invoking acts of environmental fury, especially like global warming theories. Both philosophies dictate that those who do not follow them will ultimately receive damnation and misery.

Why not? Well, for starters, environmental groups are based on science, not religion, therefore what they preach is proven or disproven, not faithfully followed. And let's face it, piles of garbage that don't decompose, chemical spills, oil spills, deforestation. Just on the topic of deforestation... it destroyed the Incas, and later in Britain deforestation severely impacted society. Those are small scale examples. Als, common sense tells you that if you kill the things that create oxygen, you'll have less oxygen right?

History dictates, not blind belief in a deity, that if we continue to rape and pillage we'll fuck things up, we always have, we always will. After all, we're human. I'd have more faith in science Steve, after all it could be science that proves the existence of God someday. ( I like to through that in with the religious, it strengthens their faith ) :francais:
