Strange things happening... any suggestions please

    Hi Guys,

This is my first post and hopefully one of you will be able to point me in some kind of direction regarding my question.

Here is the problem. I have been running a site now for around 8 months. I have worked my butt off to get the traffic and sales growing. Sales had been increasing on a regular basis but all of a sudden this has dropped at an alarming rate... despite the fact that traffic has nearly tripled. I found this all a bit strange to say the least. On my stats package, the exit pages are telling me that sales are being generated but I dont seem to be getting them logged to my site.

Is it possible that there is something untoward going on here or am I being paranoid?

If anyone could enlighten me as to what could possibly be going wrong I would be very grateful. TIA.

    James

    I think that I'd:

    (1) do a sample membership purchase and make sure it shows up.

    (2) check with your billing provider and see if anything is screwed up with payment processing.

    (3) check your sales stats and see if you have an unusual number of declines... perhaps your billing provider is scrubbing unusually heavily (we've been noticing some of that from time to time.)

    (4) Look at your traffic and see if perchance you're getting a bunch of traffic from high-risk areas likely to be declined by the billing provider

    (5) see if rebills (or non-rebills) are affecting overall sales.

Also make sure that your affilite codes have not changed, if they did that would cause you to be missing some sales. Plus check the paysite's tour pages and see if anything has changed there too, like for instance you would expect your joins to drop if your sponsor dropped their trials.

    cheers,

    Hi guys

I had best explain (in more detail) all that I know to date and hopefully get a valid opinion from you all.

First, I don't run a paysite but run a gay porn blog, actually I run three. Two are up and running fully the third is in the process of development. The two that are running ok are what is bothering me at present.

Basically, I simply direct traffic to various paysites via reviews etc on the blogs. You all know how this works so I wont bore you all with that. Several weeks ago, I noticed tht I could not get through to a particular site that I wont mention here, but I had a bad vibe about. This persisted for almost a week before I decided to write to the webmaster and ask what the problem was as I had the feeling that he had banned my sites IP's.

He informed me that his site had been under a DOS attack and that the server had automatically banned several IP's. Fair enough, if that was the case then It would eventually be cleared. No. It continued. I emailed him again. He said that his site had been out of commision of 20 hours... yet during the time his site was supposed to be out of commision, I was able to go to another site and reach his... it was fine. This started me thinking about a certain other individual that just happens to be doing the same thing I am, but, I dont think he is too happy about that fact. Tough, thats the way things are. He also happens to be a really big friend of the webmaster of the site I just mentioned.

Now, maybe Im getting paranoid but I have a feeling that between them they are trying to discredit me and the sites I run. I have no proof of this so therefore I am saying as little as possible at the moment.

Put that together with the fact that CCBill have been a bit odd with me lately and I get more than just a feeling here. My stats are definitely telling me that people are indeed buying... In the past 10 days I have not made one sale... normally I would have made quite a few.

I have gone through all the links... they are fine and correct. I have gone through the templates and all is ok as far as I can make out. Only two things have changed in the last few weeks... the main template that I use and the statistical package that I use. This morning I changed back to the old stats package in case it was the new one causing problems. This really is a complete nightmare. Am I being paranoid. Is it possible that what I percieve to be happening, is happening? Could it have been the template change that has altered something... but I find that notion a bit silly, but who knows.

Opinions, I would really respect yours?

Feedback would be great and very appreciated. Hope what I have said helps but it may not. Thanks again.

DDOS attacks generally last for several hours, not days. If he is having these issues, it could be that his server is not setup to handle these attacks. Hopefully he will have upgraded or at least installed the latest scripts to cut down on the problem activity.

Don't forget that if you are having difficulties with one sponsor, you can always try a new one.

    cheers,
    Luke
