Subliminal Advertising - Anyone Tried It?

Okay strange question i know but i was just doing some research on subliminal advertising for a client in mainstream and got thinking about how it could be used by those of us in the porn business.

For example, with banner ads being so widespread, if subliminal advertising does in fact work, whats to stop someone from putting a single frame in an animated banner that says something like 'i have to join this site' that flashes so quickly it cant be seen except subliminally?

As i say im doing some research for a non-adult client right now and this is one of the things they are looking a doing but i figured rather than wasting their $$$ on something id find out if anyone had tried this and, if so, did you notice any positive effect on sales?

I tried it just for fun. I did stuff like "Pull out your credit card" or "Join Now".

Dont know if it really works or not... I didnt see any changes I just thought it was funny.

Years ago I read a book on this subject complete with case studies from major brands. I think the conclusion of the book was that it works maybe just don't get caught by the consumer. Then again some of the negative publicity also produced the effect of people purposely watching and looking for the ads, seeing the movie, buying the videos in order to try and find the subliminal ad theirselves...

Back in film school just for kicks I once slipped in a frame or two that said "sex" to see how it would look and to see if anyone would notice. Unfortunately it got cut out of the final edit.
