    Hand Scan

Anyone know of an update to the Hand Scan story?

Future PCs may bar children from Internet sites by using an ultrasound device to gauge their age from a hand bone.

The technology, known as Age-Group Recognition (AGR), is the brainchild of Israeli company i-Mature. The company has teamed with security technology firm RSA to develop the technology for the consumer PC market.

I've never heard of this. Sounds interesting though. But an easy solution for the kid who's hellbent on seeing porn is for them to goto their local library, no handscan there. Or a friends computer, etc.

Like the article I posted the other day said... no system is full proof as kids will find a way. Kind of sucks

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Well thay already have finger print authentification systems for passwords and stuff like that so it makes sense that this would become the next wave for biometric technology.

The problem of course is, just because its available, are parents going to use it.

our local libraries use filtering so that most adult material is not accessible there.

See other thread regarding NetNanny & other "filtering" software that shows you porn when you use their "protected" search using terms like Gay pix, Gay flix, etc.

One option that we recently found: Digimarc offers an invisible watermark that an adult-content-aware browser will detect and block display of the images. This way, the filters used by major content filters (and some web browsers with "safe content" filtering) will detect and block the images.

Like any other solution, it's imperfect and there's prolly a way to defeat it (a sharp kid could install a non-aware browser), but what appealed to us about it is by using it, we've then taken every reasonable step we can to assist parents in controlling/preventing access to our adult content.
