The 'default' settings that come in SQ4.2 are they all that need to be used or are their any custom settings that i should be adding to the list to make things easier?
What i mean is, if i use the 56k dialup setting, is that all that is needed or do i have to tweak those settings any to get optimimum quality of the clip im compressing?

I've never just used a preset setting on SS.
Even with the obvious "56K", I tend to lighten a bit, darken a bit or fade it out at the end. I bring down the sound settings (video is more important than stereo sound with porn) and sometimes I even change the size.
What are you doing? That's really what you need to address, and then you tweak the setting to fit it.

Yeah..you do need to do some "tweaking".
Almost all 56k defaults are pretty crappy.
They go, obviously, for the smallest size files and bitrates for people on dialup so they have time to download the files.
But the quality is CRAPPY! So, play around with it and see what bit rate works best for you. Frankly, I hardly ever go BELOW 768k for any video. And I've got a lot of 56k dialups, and most of them never complain, especially using programs like "Get Right" etc.
And like Jason said, lower those bit rates for audio..they set them as high as 224 sometimes which is ridiculous..you actually can get by with 32k for MOST videos for audio.
