The truth in advertising act?

I figure, the government could shut down MORE sites under the TAA than they could ever dream of doing using the guise of obscenity.

The FTC Act prohibits unfair or deceptive advertising in any medium.

How many websites promise more than they can deliver?

Would seem all the FTC would need to do in order to enforce this rule woul be join a couple of paysites, if they dont have 'millions of pics' or 'thousands of movies' it would be a pretty clear cut case and, for the same money they are spending on the obscenity task force, they could, realistically, get 2 or 3 times the success rate by going after something that is tried and tested.

Just a thought to put out there.

Actually, i think the way it works, the FTC issues a complaint stating what they think is false and deceptive -- saying something like "You make the claim that there are millions of pictures", and the onus is on the advertiser to provide evidence to the FTC that the claim is truthful and not deceptive. So they could probably reasonably ask the site owner to do the counting, perhaps by providing a count from the filesystem directory or something.

Not saying it's right at all... I just am saying that's the policy. The case I remember illustrating it (which gives away my age) is that many years ago, Wonder Bread used to advertise "Helps build strong bodies 12 ways" and when the FTC asked Wonder Bread for the 12 ways... well, they sorta hemmed and hawed... couldn't come up with anything. Of course, all that really happened is the FTC made them remove the claim and probably fined them something. But yes, the onus was definitely on Wonder Bread.

'Thousands' would be a minimum of 2000 otherwise, it would just be 'A Thousand'
