Just received this from a company supplying stuff to Internext..

Worst of all, it came to an email address that AVN have never received an email from, because it has no SMTP server attached to it.

Are AVN now crawling webmaster sites to get email addresses?

Is it possible this is not an AVN generated email? Perhaps the event marketing company is harvesting emails from webmaster sites?
I can't see AVN doing this ....

Just checked with our sales and trade show departments and got this response from them:

"We do not sell email lists and this company is not affiliated with us, nor do they provide equipment for us for any of our shows. We did not generate this email."

As my co-worker pointed out to me, "This has happened before with companies trying to make money off our name."

It looks like spam to us.

We organize and run the show in-house. We don't service out.

If you have specific questions, call up our trade show department and ask them. I am sure they would be willing to speak with you about this.

I think that would be a much better solution than blindly posting in such a public forum before you have the facts. Don't you?

I always say, if you have a beef with someone, then you should talk to them about it before slandering their name in public. I mean, just in case you might be wrong. I think it kinda makes you look reactionary and disrespectful when you do anything other than that--especially if you end up sticking your foot in your mouth, 'cuz then you are the one who ends up looking like the bad guy.

Not reprimanding anyone here. It's not my board, so you can do and say whatever you want. I'm just offering my opinion.

I would say this about any situation, BTW. Even if I didn't work for them.

well I'd agree... in fact, I've said that many times on gww... and the person that should be modeling that behavior (and the behavior of sending emails instead of slandering people in a public forum, or sending emails instead of posting messages asking someone to contact him in a public forum) is the moderator.

But he doesn't.

You must have missed the thread in which he addressed my comments (instead of emailing me). I responded, and got a "so what" response back, so I figured it wasn't worth arguing. But it doesn't mean I won't point it out when it continues to happen.
