i was thinkin' - ya know, paysite and VOD sales often slow in summertime and winter vacation. i was wondering if hard goods sales do as well - things like dvd's and sex toys.
also does anyone here know if mainstream sales slow at the same periods porn sales do?

We've experienced a "storm surge" in replacing and rebuilding lost inventory in the South, thanks to our kind and good natured distributor...
Our sales have ramped up slowly since we started our production business a few years ago...we took a big hit, as everyone did, in lost VHS sales this past summer however, we are slowly regaining those losses and filling in with DVD sales...
Personally, I think that average "suburban" internet consumers are going to worry about fuel costs this winter and continue to tighten their belts as they try and heat all of those "mini mansions" they have moved into over the past few years as well as fuel up those hefty SUV's and muscle cars they have parked in their driveways.
The bottom line is this, people with disposable income will continue to buy porn and sex products and people without extra cash will need to make serious budget decisions regarding spiraling consumer debt, fuel costs and the general economic outlook of our nation...
Competition for available dollars and market share is fierce and my prediction is that this will be an interesting holiday season... I've already noticed the numbers of internet companies that have slashed prices on all inventory including brand new releases... this is NOT a good sign for those companies.

I think it's probably a given that sales will tend to drop a bit during the summer months as everyone hits the vacation trail. Ours always drop a but but by September they start picking up again and the closer we get to Christmas we get busier, and then yep, right after Christmas we will slow down a bit until about mid February and then it "Katie bar the door" until the end of June and the cycle starts all over again.
We did notice this summer that while I retail web sales took their normal slow down, we picked up a lot of new bookstores and distributors who wanted to carry our products and those sales amounted to a net increase in income for us during the summer months.

Our sex toy sales are pretty consistent most of the year... except for November & December are about 2x's more because of Christmas... and February is around 2x-2.5x more sales because of Valentines Day.:extat:

Yup, there's a little increase around mother's day & father's day.
I think so far as 'patterns' go, for us, we have never experienced a 'summer slowdown' except for once about 3 or 4 years back when Ashcroft became the DOJ, things just seemed to die down across the board then.
Christmas and the other national holidays are always good sales periods for us with our sponsors, we get a lot of targeted 'holiday porn' traffic though that many others dont.
I think sales wise the worse period for us tends to be the week or so after boxing day (December 26th) up until Jan 2nd.

Yep, I think that Ashcroft had quite a sobering effect on the entire adult industry when we became Attornye General...espcially when he covered up those mammary glands on that statue!:cry:

This past summer was one of my best yet in product sales. Unfortunately one of my merchants decided that they're not paying so I've got some catch up to do.
October, November and Early to mid December are historically for me excellent product sale months.
