Video editing problems

We are using Vegas and the video and everything is in the correct format but when we import it into Vegas it smashes the video. The orginal video is in widescreen. We have tried all the settings but nothing seems to help. Can anyone please help?

Had you considered using something else to convert the file into the proper aspect ratio before bringing it into Vegas?

when you say it "smashes" it, what do you mean?

i could be wrong here - jasun is the video guru, not me - but i believe if you want to make wide screen videos for the web, you need to letterbox it with black border above and below. otherwise people look very weird!

The video image is smashing the image so people look like someone took both sides of the video and pushed them in.

Go to properties in Vegas. Sounds like you have the default set at 1.0 (Square) try the ntsc setting in properties at .9091 ntsc dv. This is under the pixel aspect ratio. If that doesn't help, then try the setting of 1.2121, ntsc dv widescreen in properties under pixel aspect ratio.
