Cell Phone Porn... what do we really think?

Ok, so it seems that every time there's a cell phone porn thread started, it's started by someone who's spamming the boards and they usualyl disappear before we can really challenge them.

My personal feelings is that it's a bad idea for the puritanical North American market. All it's going to take is one guy watching porn on the bus or in line at the bank before lawsuits, indecency charges and the anti-porn witch-hunt gets started up.

This will result in MORE laws for the industry and MORE trouble that we really don't need.

Porn should be enjoyed, in my own personal opinion, in the privacy of one's own home, car, office or hotel room. Not out in public for all to see.

What say you, good people? :jasun:

Not to mention the concern about underage kids getting hold of it... while I'm sure that somebody will figure some way to deliver a "Yes, I'm over 18" click option, I could definitely see that as an issue, as parents have far less control over their kids cellphones as they do their computers.

On the other hand, perhaps the existence and persistence of adult content in more public environments (such as viewing on cell phones) will continue the trend we already see from Hollywood, the music industry, and the advertising industry of open displays of blatant sexuality that seem to be reducing much of the stigma that existed 10-15 years ago.

Off on a tangent but a similar vein... what about DVD players/LCD monitors in cars? I've heard a few rumblings about porn showing on automobile LCD displays and it being visible to passing cars.

And now we have porn movies for PSP's (laptops weren't discreet enough) so all the horny travellers can watch porn during their business trip flights.

I'm with you Jasun... keep the porn in private. Perverts, quit fucking it up for everyone else! Lol.

I don't have an opinion about whether it's good or bad. It's going to happen. So time will tell. But do we really need it? Or will it just be a novelty?

Im also concerned about the age verification on such delivery methods, there really isnt any good way at the present time for any company to ascertain the age of the viewers of cell phone porn, we had an opportunity a couple of years ago to jump on board with some cellphone related stuff based in the UK, we turned it down though because of that very reason, we couldnt be sure that kids werent getting the stuff that we'd be delivering.

That being said, the same is also true for the new craze in iPod and PSP porn, there is no way to ensure that users of that delivery method are adults either.

I dont but, it just seems like as soon as we [the industry] start thinking about how we can make ourselves come across as more professional that we do at the present time, we run off on another tangent which provides us with even more problems that we have to address.

    Regards,

    Lee

the mobile commerce market is HUGE and getting bigger every day. New mobile phones and PDAs come standard with more memory, bigger and better screens, etc. Its a perfect match. I see no reason why the adult industry would not work exceedingly well on them.

    cheers,

Oh, lets not forget that USA is very far behind with mobile phone technology. It would be much smarter to look at the opportunities in Asian, Euro and Pacific countries which have advanced systems plus have much higher penetrations of mobile phone usage (in some countries its now becoming the norm to have a mobile phone and no land line).

    cheers,

I was wondering about cell phone porn myself recently. So about 3 months ago I took a weekend and learned to build sites for use on a mobile device. (The programming is based off XML.) People love it and the usage is growing on a monthly bases. It is also possible to program in the "over 18 click here, if not exit here" that you would on a normal site.

Luke is also correct that we (the U.S. Market) are behind on the mobile market. They are already working on turning cell phones into mobile wallets in Japan. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...ne/4384500.stm
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

Stunner Media Presents 8 great programs:

I think that once everyone gets over the "wow this is neat" factor, it'll pass. But I think where there's a huge market for cell phones and the adult biz is cruising the chatroom and meeting people in public. Sit in a park somewhere, and type, "Hey, I'm by the oak tree at the entrance to Cawthra Park."

Porn itself? I think the screens are too small to really appeal to people long term.

Is anyone promoting AEBN's new xoble site? I didn't think it would sell very good to my visitors so I'm going to hold off on promoting them till I see if porn on cell phones takes-off.
I personally don't think it is a good idea. You are going to have people showing cell porn in public and in the work place. This will really fire up the anti-porn groups, not to mention get a lot of people fired for looking at porn at work.

Good point, Michael. I believe you said something similar in the predictions that you sent me for the article I was putting together on the future of the gay Internet. I totally think that this movement may take more hold among straight guys, if at all. Gay guys usually don't want to be pegged as gay. Consequently, they will watch porn in the privacy of their own homes (or on the monitors at their local sex clubs, of course), where they can keep their sexuality a private thing. Closeted gay guys would never be caught dead watching gay porn in public.

I don't see how this trend will catch on for the gay community, except maybe in certain pockets of the world--like cities--where gay people are everywhere. But will gay guys in the Castro and down in West Hollywood want to watch porn on their cell phones while they're having a mocha latte at Starbucks? I kinda doubt it. It just seems so unnecessary to me.

My short & sweet answer... NO THANK YOU!

I believe 90+% of society already has horrid cell phone etiquette (loud conversations, use of the device while at the bank, in stores, and worse of all while driving), so this is not something I will support.

When first approached some four plus years ago, I showed no interest. Maybe it is partly due to the fact that I am not one that NEEDS to yakitee-yak all the time (I am not a 'phone person' but if I need to spew, it is usually here, or on some forum).

I am put-off by persons that find the need to call someone to talk about nothing (or check their phone for messages that are not there), simply to look cool.

Adding to that, people will abuse their access to porn and that is all we will hear. Just imagine, your shopping for groceries and some clown has his/her cell playing porn at top volume, or is viewing stills on his/her phone at a distance while on the bus sitting next to some child.

My favourite prickish thing to do is stand by the person in line and stare at them, and every once and a while, add a response to their conversation, or simply make loud rude noises, just like them.

(No, I am not stoned, again, yet!)
