    Child Porn Crack Down

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- FBI cybercrime officials Wednesday formally announced a program in which agents go after suspected producers of child pornography by obtaining "John Doe" arrest warrants and releasing the suspects' photographs or videos to the public.

i'm not really sure how i feel about this yet. while i feel a compelling urgency to eradicate such an evil...i don't think that's what will happen here. i have a feeling all that will come of this is invasions into legitimate, law-abiding, ethical business people such as ourselves. events like that can ruin someone's life and we all know the government's done it before...looks like they're gonna do it again.

but this begs the question, how DO we eradicate child porn? that needs to be up to those of us in the industry who respect ourselves and our colleagues enough to put in the time, effort and money that it takes to keep the slimeballs out of business.

wow...wasn't thinking about any of that at all this morning...spent most of the morning putting together a desk. nice change of intellectual pace :-)

The fact that it is working is fantastic. The people that do this need to be caught. The children must be protected from them.

From what is written in the article, and some of the thing that Joan from ASACP vaguley alluded to in Vegas, the FBI isn't obtaining Jon Doe warrants arbitrarily. The evidence is all there before they get the warrant, only a name and address is missing - thus the John Doe. If you think about it, an eye witness to a crime may not know the person doing the deed, but know the face. If they can pick the person out of a book of pictures or create a composite image, this gives the police enough to go into action.

My only concern is if this type of process were to be used without proper evidence and against innocent people. And that's a stretch.

Video surveillance footage is used all the time on the news and criminals have been arrested. As in the recent kidnapping in Tampa, it was caught on film and played on the news until the guy was caught and brought in for questioning.

When it comes down to it, for me, I'm just glad that proven CP criminals are being found.
