trying to install phpBB getting error

evreytime i try to install it i get this dam error
An error occurred trying to update the database
Table 'phpbb_auth_access' already exists

Could be your host already has set up phpBB2 tables but if not, when you do the install configuration, change the name to call the forum tables... can't really recall the format as haven't installed phpbb2 in ages.. but you have to change it in the config.php file I think.. or ask Chili...he would know.

it sounds like you have tried to install it and then install it again without removing the database entries, if you uninstall it you would also need to drop the database tables or the entire database if it was setup uniquely for phpbb.

Someone clicked the button twice during the install when it came to populating the SQL tables.

If memory serves me correctly, you can skip that section of the install, i beleive (and its been a few years since i installed phpBB) that the install URL has a number at the end of it, like step=1 or something like that, instead change that part of the URL to the next sequenced number and it *should* skip that part of the install completely

Failing that, as Luke suggested, drop the SQL tables and start again

As a reminder..make sure you have the latest release for phpBB.
There was a pretty big hack (exploit) in the older versions.

If you still are not able to install the softeware check with your host. If you use a control panel like Ensim there may be an issue.
