How many of you use consoles and what do you think about them?
How many of you use consoles and what do you think about them?
Hey Chris,
Greetings from Sin City!
Yes, despite years of not posting on chat boards, I am finally getting into the game plan, at least a little.
On the console side, presuming that you mean for surfer traffic, yes they are valuable. In fact, after looking at URL's from paying advertisers we deal with on large networks over the past five years, most long time clients find that they can generate up to 15% of their gross return on investment from traffic buys via well managed exit console revenue.
Nice to think of making your money back from PPC ad buys via both selling your product as well as what you can earn from sending your non-buying surfers to other merchants or traffic companies!
If I was going to use pop ups (or pop under) I would only do it for exiting traffic if you have membership sites. Or if you have those free sites.
We tried to use them when we where buying traffic from different places and they wanted to stop our campaigns with them because of them.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

Hey all,
Lee - it's Scott. how you doin' doll? Looking forward to seeing you boys in AZ next month
AndyMike - we just opened a very large PPC search engine system that does allow advertisers to use consoles, provided that after clicking onto one of your listings, that the browsers don't crash. Having some consoles on your ads within our network are fine.
Feel free to hit us up at advertising@trafficdude.com or contact Jenn, Buzz or Tony from our group starting next week and we can get you details if you wish.
Cheers,
Scott
I normally talk to Lisa over there. We're both chat mods on Ynot and chat on ICQ. She didn't tell me about that new search engine then. (I guess I'm going to have to spank her!)Originally posted by tdude1

Yes I am talking about surfer traffic and yes I agree we rely heavly on consoles for exit traffic.Originally posted by tdude1

However, with all of the pop-up blocker software available and in use, have you seen any lose of profits? If so, what is the alternate method available to us to capture exit traffic?

Nothing that I know of short of a shotgun wedding type situation.
There are some companies that have been able to make their stuff pop up even though I use a pop up blocker. When I find one I will post the script for it on the site if I can find it.

When and if you do find one I believe many of us would benifit from it.Originally posted by andymike

Good original question, Chris. I've been wondering about the effect on exit traffic of pop-up blockers myself. I'd like to see more feedback about loss of profits (or not) from those using exit consoles. Anyone other responses to this question?Originally posted by Chris Alan

Hey,
Was looking at sites and found a site that poped up an exiting console that got past my pop up blocker. I didn't look at the scripts or anything. http://gaysexportal.top100.org/
The one thing I did notice that it also poped up about 8 pop up windows while the page was open in my browser. (My pop up blocker got them.)

I tried the click too and allowed the scripts to run. Same thing happened to me. My popup blocker allowed the exit popup but not the other popups.Originally posted by andymike
Hey,

The successful popup appears to be coming from http://ww1.top100.org/~56144/gaysexp...rg/index.html. The exit popup is coming from the scripting dealing with function linkdaemon_popup. But I ran a test html page isolating that scripting, and my popup blocker successfully blocked the exit console. There is a lot of scripting on the page, so I don't know what overrode the popup blocker.
Beware that the scripting on the web page is insidious if you want o check it out. My antiviral program detected a virus; the page tried to install a search toolbar; my temporary internet files got two .crl files and one .jar file; and I notice dialer scripting on the page. Yikes!
I use 2 methods, for pictures that open in a new window I open whatever ad I want to pop and the picture opens in a pop up console (so if they are using a blocker they only get the ad, not the picture) But if I do not want the picture in a new window I simply let them have the pic for a few seconds, then refresh to the advert, using a meta refresh.
If you do not know what I mean, you can see the first type here (on the pictures only, not the galleries)
http://www.free-internet-porn.com/t.../lesbians.shtml
and the second type here (the first three pics are clean, the rest have a progressively shorter refresh)
http://www.barrysgirls.com/free-har...e-sex-one.shtml
(Note that both pop to top lists so you may get other pop-ups too.)
This was a response from another board, where I posted the same questions.
Some sponsors are now offering their webmasters console codes to stop popup blocker software
Another way of getting around this software could also be to get a list of user agents for the more popular ones and simply redirect that traffic directly to your sponsors tours using .htaccess too.
The problem is getting the initial list of user agents though

Lee
