Don Mike - Back from the darkness!!!

Hello everyone. Sorry for keeping you all in the dark for so long. Today is the first day I've really felt good enough to sit at my computer for any length of time.

I just can't thank you all enough. All the nurses kept joking about all the flowers and balloons I had in my room, it looked like a flower shop! LOL! Randy and Ray sent me a beautiful plant that I can keep (thank God it's low maintenence, as Randy told me, ha ha ha) and I got a big cheerful bunch of balloons from the GWW crew. JUB and Alleybucks also sent wonderful get well surprises, in a addition to things sent from family and friends, so there was not a moment that I didn't feel the love and support.

The final doctor's report said that the appendix had basically died and gone gangrene. I mean, who gets gangrene anymore??? I thought that just happened in old westerns! At any rate, the appendix had perforated and some of the nasty leaked into my colon. They got it all out but I was in recovery for quite a while. They said I had a 104 fever, which is pretty dangerous. Most of the pain of the operation has subsided and now I just have to rebuild my health while fighting the infection. I get tired really easily, and have to take it easy but I'm starting to feel like a real person again. Oh, and my temperature goes up and down like a yoyo, so I go from being cold to hot in a flash, always fun.

I was so thrilled to get a visit from my new bosses while in the hospital. Two days into the new job and my body up and bails, I knew I didn't have anything to worry about but I still felt bad. I'm really fortunate to be in such an understanding environment. I'm sure some places would pretty much say "see ya when you get back" but they really went over and above the call of duty on this one. Thanks guys. I just wanted everyone here to know how amazing you are.

Okay, recovering... new job training... getting better. I'll be around but if I'm scarce at first, y'all know why. Thanks again for all the calls, flowers, balloons and well wishes.

Thanks Lee, it's good to be back! Oh, and my apologies if anyone tried to reach me in the hospital and I either didn't answer or didn't get back to you. Not to sound like Mr. Popular, but after the first several phone calls each day I was just too weak and tired to keep answering. However, even in my sickness I did feign diva status a few times by looking over at my sister and saying "Vhy... vhy von't zey leave me aloooone". LOL!!!

Oh, one really funny story. My sister literally dropped everything to come be with me and in her haste she forgot to bring pajamas, so the first night she went into the cupboard and found an extra hospital gown. When they wheeled me in from the recovery room the orderly almost passed out when he saw what he though was another patient laying on a rollaway bed in my room!!! LOL!

Glad you felt good enough to post and let us know how you're doing! Give yourself time to heal up -- it's going to be awhile before you're ready to be auctioned off again!

Hey Mike,

WELCOME BACK! Glad to hear you made it through the rain OK. My best buddy Mike (hmmm, maybe it's a name thing?) recently went through the same ordeal. He was on the road on his way to move to Los Angeles, en route from San Francisco, when he became deathly ill. Luckily, he was spending the night at his roommate's parents' house when the shit really hit the fan, and wasn't driving or anything.

Glad you're back on the site.

i'm so glad you're finally feeling a little better. i did actually try and call each day a couple times - i wanted to visit, but i figured if you didn't feel well enough to answer the phone, having a visitor wasn't going to make your day.

sounds like we're pretty lucky you're still around. i know i feel lucky.

maybe we can all get together when you're actually feeling well

LOL!!! We wondered about that. For those of you that don't know, one of my very best friends goes by the name of pug, and she had her appendex out two weeks ago. I told her I was jealous of all the attention. LOL!!!
