Anyone (Luke?) Know If A Host Can Do This..
Im trying to figure out a way to add a header and footer to a specific domain and all subsequent sub folders under that domain, much like you would find on a free host.
Does anyone know if it is possible for a host to do this automatically without me having to change anything on the 400 or so sites on a specific domain name?

I believe this (which is handle via your httpd.conf file) will do what you want:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/modlayout/
http://tangent.org/index.pl?lastnode_id=478&node_id=362
I'm not sure which of those is the official one.

virgin by request ;)
mod_layout has had some problems running on enterprise level linux servers (CentOS or RHEL) and I have read that it totally slows down apache's processing speed too. Give it a go but just be aware of those issues and monitor things closely after you get it installed.
Alternatively, there are some freehost scripts out there that will do this for you, I don't know of any off the top of my head. And you can also try using server side includes.
cheers,
Luke

Luke's right about the slow down, I was reading where Mambo and Drupal both have wraparound plugins for existing html on sites and they did say it would seriously slow things down, but is a workaround to having to change everything to php pages and adding the includes info to each one if you already have a lot of pages online.
