    Ready? Set? Go?

    Hi y'all,

after thinking about it for a year now and reading a lot of forums about adult webmastery I decidet to try and start my first own site.

Some questions still burn under my nails:

should I use an CMS for the member-area or just use Arles?
I would like to tell a piece of software where my pics are and then just import them to the management system. The Software should create thumbnails and galleries for me without me telling it to do so.

How 'but strongbox or Pennywise or other blocking-software?

The thing is: i am more a hand-on-guy than a theroretical learner.

    Thanks

    DEVELISH

If you want to be able to just upload your content and have the program make your galleries and deal with all the link updates, and be able to setup stuff like content updates that will happen automatically, then you'll want a CMS. For security on a paysite, go with Strongbox.

    Paysite CMS programs include
    http://pmspro.com
    http://www.sitedepth.com/
    http://awizsoft.com/manager/
    http://www.contentgod.com/main.html
    http://www.mansionproductions.com/mas/
    http://www.subdreamer.com/

You could also probably get Drupal or Mambo to work for a paysite, but they are more for a dynamic community portal website, but they are OpenSource and free. You can learn more about open source programs here: http://opensourcecms.com

    Thanks Bec,

I like MAS the best right now - just at a hefty pricetag :-( (~4k$)

Will check out all of them though.

What are the others using? Off the rack software or homegrown?

we are using an old version of awiz paysite manager and I don't really like it. It works OK with pics but thats it. The newer versions are supposed to be better but I have tried installing it but I could never get it to work.

for pennywize vs strongbox, strongbox is the better choice.

    cheers,
    Luke

Don't forget that TooMuchMedia (maker of NATS) has their new content manager out now. I have no experience with it, but if it's anywhere near as complete as NATS is, it will probably kick some serious ass.

i loved using mas but i admit, i'm a hands-on person, too. there will be a learning curve with any cms but it's worth it after your time opens up after you have the hang of things!
