The Future of Technology: Where Is It Headed Next?

So, I just got this schmokin' new cell phone from Verizon that includes .mp3/video capabilities, Bluetooth software, several video games, a way-cool mini keyboard, awesome mini video screen w/stereo speakers, a camera w/flash, etc. etc. etc. I'm amazed at all the stuff I can do on it. It's especially cool that I can download songs and video content onto it and if I just flip the phone open, I have my own mini entertainment system and mini-office right at my finger tips. I doubt I could watch Titanic on this thing, but watching an episode of "The Office" or "My Name Is Earl" while I'm standing in line at the post office would kinda rock. I can also download news clips and music videos right from my phone using the V-cast technology, and browse the Web and check email no matter where I am. All for only $199!!! Talk about friggin' affordable.

I'm continually amazed by the things that are being created and made available as time goes on, in such a relatively short amount of time, too. I mean, I told my mother about this and she was absolutely blown away. Had no context for such a thing, based on what she had just 30 years ago. Hell, even based on what we had just 10 years ago.

Anyways, where do you guys see all of this heading? The new Trios have Microsoft Windows loaded onto them for God's sake! Do you think that eventually we will have TiVo or some comparable DVR software available on cell phones? Video on Demand no matter where you are? Cable TV? Will I be able to write screenplays on my mobile phone while I'm at the coffee shop?

Here's a pic of my phone. I thought I was gonna cum when I activated it and turned it on for the first time!

It's an LG The V phone from Verizon. So far, I am very happy with it. Typing text messages is a BREEZE now. Saving so much time.

The only thing I'm bummed about is that I cannot play my own video clips on the phone. I can only view the ones that Verizon offers via V-Cast. They have, like, 4 to 5-minute-long wrap-ups of recent episodes of certain shows, but you can't view entire episodes of any of those shows. I was hoping that I could download a video clip of my own onto the mini-SD card, then view the clip on my phone, but apparently that's not possible. But I can do that with my own music clips. You can also download them via V-Cast, but that requires purchasing an extra package that costs $29.99. Think I'll just import my own .mp3 files via the SD-card instead.

The US is actually way behind in technology. Hong Kong is way ahead of us, they can watch live tv, movies, just about anything on their cell phones. They already has over 8 live tv stations that stream to peoples cell phones plus unbelieveably fast internet and wireless. I think that is where we are headed or at least I hope, hehe.

Here is an article on new cell phone technology where you can use any camera on a cell phone to scan documents then send them to others. http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkonther...ng_with_y.html I think within time our cell phones will be our home office.

I checked the LG phone but I cannot use it as its CDMA. The reason I went with the O2 was its quad band GSM plus 802.11 compatability means I will be able to save some cash on GPRS costs.

And yes, the USA is behind the world in this technology. Even Australia rolled out its 3G network about 3 years ago which offers video conferencing, photo messaging, etc. I love keeping an eye on mobile technology in Asia, they have absolutely embraced mobile phones to the point that evolution has kicked in and kids are now being born with longer thumbs!!!

All this talk about new phones got me excited and I went ahead and ordered my new O2 phone

    cheers,
    Luke

Wow, in that case, my brand new phone will be obsolete in just three months! UGH!

no matter where technology is headed people will still need to eat and still need replacement parts. :goof:

sincerely ~ ..."your special! , you want to go to the island!"... - the island

p.s ~ a friend and i discussed in great detail about getting a new phone last night something similar to the one that "chilihost" is "ordering" but we both decided "no" since it was obviously more than i needed and why buy something beyond your needs simply because you can afford it , i'm settling for the 50" plasma t.v instead!...that i understand!
