Critics requested for my new site

hello guys, after lurking around for some time I've finally registered and my first post is allready a request :gaydays:
I 've just completed (allmost) my website, which I've really put alot of work in and I hope people will like it. Allthough I started out with the idea of of publishing a sort of fany cocktail database the whole thing evolved a little different, as I allready mentioned the site is not 100% complete but it is ready for use. So, that said it would be very nice if you could take a look at it and post some critics .

with 20% of my surfers at 800x600 and 70% at 1024, a site best viewed in 1280 just doesn't make sense. and since most of my surfers - and surfers anywhere i've seen stats - still use ie, you might wanna focus on ie unless you're trying to make a political statement.

i'll go check it out more later, but right now i'm in the middle of something and don't wanna change my resolution.

Honestly I don't quite know what to say. I'm sure there's a geek reason why I couldn't resize my window. Why offer a site that is best seen in the 2 least used browers? I can't see the whole page, but what I could see ...

I don't care for the color choices, and find it difficult to read. I'm still unsure what you are selling, or why a surfer would opt in the e-mail, without knowing what for.

Both your landing page and main page uses abbreviations and has so many spelling, sentence structure, and errors in grammar, it pains me to read.

So .. I'm still kinda confused .. what kind of site is this?

Get rid of the "best viewed at." You're wasting space and creating another click. Just put the page up and let it speak for itself. "Best viewed at" statements are so 1999.

The purple is offensive. Even more offensive than the original purple design of GWW. Seriously though, it's shocking and not at all pleasing to the eye. (I don't mind a bit of it at the top of the page inside the blue film reel.) I don't know what the site is about, it's too early in the morning for this. I need a coffee.

Errr sorry I have no idea what the site is about or what I'm supposed to do. So, I started clicking graphics to see if they led anywhere that would tell me more...the graphic that did do something poped up a small window that said I'm not authorized to do that.... No idea why one would have something like that...

Well I spent a little time working for a company that runs personals sites and they have more than 40 million active members across their sites. The number of available partners is why people join and stay with online dating sites. So my question is where all those initial profiles will come from? I know you can buy fake ones but is that what you want to do? If not, how ill you generate the huge amount of traffic all at once to get a lot of profiles up there.

Maybe the bigger question is, what is your unique selling proposition? Why should I join your site instead of another one? One answer to that is becuase you have a specialized niche but your site looks pretty general. Maybe with your domain name, it could be a site for daters who like to drink a lot!

Michael touched on most everything I noticed right away… So I’ll just say “yea, what they said". One other thing I noticed is the “Site Owner” text in the middle of the main frame. Then the hyperlinked photo of half of a statue’s head that is hyperlinked to looks like an admin page. I wouldn't put the admin links so out in front like that. Also, you're link to drugstore.com is broken.

I'm a novice thats why I'm seeking some advise here from people who know better than me (but I like the color and sure won't be changing it).
But I allreday eliminated the best viewed site.
Concerning the starting page I realize that I have to be more explicit about what the site is about , right ?
The featured member pic is not linking to an admin page but to the profile of
the respective featured member, you just can't see the profile if you're not logged in.

I think that instead of whether you like the color or not, you should be of the mindset of what does the 'surfer' like... if the color turns them off, then really you have to be willing to make adjustments that go against your choices in order to be successful.

If the site is merely a hobby then sure, go with your own choices, but if its to make money as a business, you do what will attract the customer even if that is against your own choices.

Ah right on. You might want to make it so they can see the profile, but have to sign up (or login) to send the user a message or what have you. I think it will really help with sign ups in the long run. :1ymca:
