CHATSWORTH — Chi Chi LaRue is leaving Vivid Entertainment. The famous veteran director, female impersonator and gay production company owner, who over the last four years has done more than 30 exclusive films for Vivid, told XBiz that Vivid’s recent move to a “condom-optional” policy prompted the move.

“I am a huge condom advocate,” LaRue told XBiz. “I’m such a vocal person about my feelings about condom usage. That’s one of the reasons I went to Vivid in first place; because they required condoms for their performers.”

LaRue’s dedication to condom usage is obvious to anyone who has seen films put out by her production company, Channel 1 Releasing, all of which carry PSAs that stress the importance of condoms. LaRue also has delivered similar messages when she has performed at numerous benefits throughout the country for organizations like Aid for Aids and Aids Project of Los Angeles.

“It’s an issue about protecting the actors,” LaRue said, who admitted she had no idea why some studios don’t enforce condom usage. “A big dick going in a hole doesn’t bother me with a condom on it. And the condoms we use you can barely see them.”

LaRue said she is particularly disturbed by the influx of gonzo films in recent times that push extremism without added protection.

“They’re like shoving three dicks up a girl’s butt and not wearing a condom,” she said. “I mean, come on.”

Although LaRue said she left Vivid on good terms, she wished studios would “wise up” and realize that “it’s just a condom.”

LaRue said her departure from Vivid doesn’t mean she will stop directing straight films, however, and invited straight companies to contact her for directing contracts.

“I’m doing great with my own company, but I’m always ready and willing to direct a straight project for anyone who wants me to do that for them,” she said. “Just let me use condoms.” "

I have to admit to being somewhat shocked that Vivid decided to go condom optional. Doesn't make sense with what happened a couple years back with the HIV infections within the straight industry and the media exposure it created. But then, the estimate is that 80 of the straight adult studios either don't use condoms or are condom optional.

As to what Chi-Chi does or doesn't do....who cares? Many think he's over-rated, but one thing for sure, he does know how to get media attention. And, like they say, "their is no such thing as bad publicity".

chi chi doesn't webmaster her own program, webmasters do that. she's a well-know long-term director who has also put time and money into promoting condoms throughout the gay community.

there may or may not be such a thing as bad publicity, but i can't see that refusing to direct condom-optional videos could be bad publicity.

In business .. if YOUR name is on it .. you should pay attention to it. Of course, passing the buck partnered with lame excuses, really seems to be the norm now. Why take responciblity, when there's some other person to point at? :vanish:

I know now, the loss of my traffic won't make a blip on their stats. Who knows? Could happen that one of the several reps I've met at any of the 6 tradeshows I've attended might notice the loss, but I doubt it.

2 programs out of 70 with crap Service is still ahead of the game. Shrug, and still a win, when I close the books.

    Basschick,

You are quite correct, his decision to leave Vivid due to their new policy isn't going to hurt him at all. Guess I was just pointing out that that Larry (Chi-Chi) is a master at garnering attention and getting publicity. My real point was, does anyone really care what he does....but he was able to create a ton of publicity by sending out a News Release about it as opposed to quietly stopping. He is a master at marketing and all publicity is a good thing...even if it were bad publicity.

He certainly has the right not to direct condom optional porn whereas others have the right to do so, just as everyone has the right to produce or appear in it, or not produce or appear in it.
