CBS online has written up a good deal of info on Sony Online Entertainment's tactics to keep gamers paying.

Like telling them there was a quest in EverQuest2 that if players found out about they discover other features of the game (I think it's features). People played for months and found nothing. When asked Sony reps said absolutely the hidden quest is in the game you just have to find it. Only that it wasn't and Sony put it in 6 months later.

That way people paid subscriptions every month trying to look for something that wasn't there.

At least most adult sites deliver what they promise. I guess you could run a "find the true top in this LA gangbang scene" contest. That would keep people guessing for months!!

I have a lot of experience with mainstream sites because I'm hooked on these "frre gift" offers (they are real by the way). But all of these companies (nutrition, books, music, etc) make it so difficult to cancel recurring fees... it's no wonder that they haven't been shut down

It wont be long, imho, before recurring payments become much more controlled than they are now because of this.

If you look at the history of the web in general over the last few years, it is only once 'mainstream' jumps on the bandwagon that things start to draw un-needed attention.

Consoles for example, they were fine until mainstream sites starting spawning them endlessly, thats when people started complaining.
