    Free Membership for Affiliates

I have been thinking about giving out a free one month pass to affiliates that make 10 sales, just for PR. Anyone have any positive or negative feelings about this?

    I do...

I give my affiliates access to my site whenever the request it...I do this so they can see the quality of the site (to show them what they are promoting) AND so they can grab material inside for use to promote our site (we update weekly with original shoots).

Ya I was thinking about the same, my affiliate program is new and I want to endear my affiliates as much as possible. I believe I offer a huge amount of content as well and would really like to assure them of that. BTW to you have a feed service?

free access to a site full of feeds may not excite potential affiliates as much as you hope.

Well its still really new and in a way under construction, even though it is open I am expanding it so fast that it changes almost every week. Its really not ready for main stream affiliates yet, I really want to get every thing the way I want it before I start promotion it for everyone.

Maybe but I do have like 90% of them LOL god to tell the truth its hard to put my mind around it I do have allot of videos on my domain, but I want to wrap-up the feed thing first. I know allot of Mega-Sites that have as many feeds as me that do very well. Most people don’t care where the content comes from and by having content form all over the web it lets them have a tastes of everyone’s different styles in one place.

I really do look forward to the day when I can make my own content trust me, but this will just be an addition to my existing site. BTW I display all the providers I carry I don’t think it will come as a big shock to anyone.

So true, I've been known to over look them for sites that at least produce some of their own content. The days of using all plug ins is over. I see it daily when I check stats. There are some plug-ins like gunzblazing and topbucks that are pretty good to use, but I wouldn't base a site strictly off leased feeds.

To answer your question, yes giving passwords out to affiliates to use is a good practice. It can really give a webmaster a feel for your site. Who doesn't want a more informed sales person....?

You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

Well its really hard to create your own content but as soon as I can trust me I will, and in fact the worlds largest gay site is almost nothing but feeds. Some of the most advanced webmaster do look for originally content, just cuzz they have seen it all before, but the normal viewer dose not. Hell I don’t want members that have joined 30 sites before, that just tells me that they will not be around long anyway.

I agree, we shoot our own original content and do a major update weekly BUT we do have plug ins for added value content for our members...it gives them something new when they log in during the week while waiting for the main event on Friday. It can never hurt to give more content to the surfer...just make SURE that it is in your niche or it is of no value to your members.

What site would that be? I'll assume it's an older site.

The only large site (name recognition wise) that comes to mind who uses feeds as a primary selling point is bedfellow. One thing you have to consider with old school sites is that you may be able to emulate their content, but you can't obtain 6-8 years of name branding in 3 months. That is the main contributing factor to the continued success of certain older sites.

I would agree that webmasters are more critical than surfers are since we've seen it all, but that doesn't change the fact that the most popular sites in each catagory (minus old brands and large sponsor program sites) are all based on exclusive content.
I post here to whore this sig.

Well ya I don’t have any problem with exclusive content, its just something you have to grow into, like my grandpa always said you cant put the cart before the horse. I want to create my own content more than you could know, but for now I need content “.” I could make my own content now, but I don’t think 50 exclusive videos with out all the feeds is going to make too many members happy at all. I look at exclusive content as icing, but this whole thing just goes to show I will never finished with the site, and even when I have exclusive content people will still say I need high quality movie productions ECT someone will always look down on what I am doing is what I am getting at.

I wouldn't want access as a bonus. I prefer cash for bonuses .

That said, I do often ask for access to a site if I'm going to try and promote it heavily. I need to know what I'm selling, so I can describe it accurately and make my visitors happy with their purchase and hopefully rebill later on. I will and have promoted programs that gave me access much more heavily then those that refused to grant me access. I almost always promote Platinum Bucks and not Top Bucks, simply because of that reason. So, yes, I'm small potatoes yet, but I do long term SEO, and a year from now I expect to be getting a lot of traffic for the sites I'm building today. And guess what, those sites are built around PB sites

That said, I don't think access should be granted automatically. I think it should be based on some sort of relationship, where the sponsor marks an affiliate's potential to bring them sales down the road.
