    HTML 4.01 Transitional Docs

    !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"

Does anyone know if the above doc-type has to have the extension html or is htm still fine?

    Thanks
    Michael

I'm thinking that is stating the language used, and isn't referring to how the actual page is named for its extension.

Excluding the letter 'L', there is no difference and the exclusion of the letter 'L' does not mean a document is not in compliance with standard or version 4.

HTM is the basterdized (by Microsoft, from Win95 and on) version of the original, HTML. Prior to billyboy messin things up, j00nix booboos always used HTML.

I was chatting with someone about this and he mentioned that some apache servers will not recognize the .htm extension, unless it is told to.

So, yes, that could cause problems, but not if the admin is on his/her game.
