How Do You Decide If You Will Be Renewing A Domain You Own?

Just curious to find out how you decide if you will be renewing a domain you have already registered or, whether you will let the domain drop?

Im sure there are a lot of us who have domains registered that we havent gotten around to developing yet so, how long do we all keep these domains registered for?

Do you let them drop at the first renewal date if you havent had a chance to develop them or do you renew for a while longer?

What criteria do you have to make you renew a domain that you have registered over letting the domain expire and, how soon before a domain expires do you renew it if you are going to?

    Regards,

    Lee

about a month before renewal I get a reminder email saying it will be auto-renewed for me, I take a look at it and if it still looks marketable I let it auto-renew.

    cheers,

If i still think it is good enough to keep it, ill keep it. If i think i made a mistake buying it ill just let it drop and save myself cash for a few beers.

whenever someone asks "what would you do if you could start over" I always say that I would buy good domain names. Today, there are fewer and fewer good two word domains left. I figure its worth the $8/yr to keep my domain name even if I just end up selling it off in a few years time when there are no two word domains left.

    cheers,
    Luke

I agree, if it lloks like it will be profitable then I keep it. however, if i have a domain that I haven't used in 2 years, I drop it.

As far as them getting harder to get...I just read that SE like google have snatched up all the good domains and created those stupid sites that consist of one page with nothing but "ads by google' on them.

I've noticed that there are companies that all they do is buy up domains and then sell them at inflated prices. That sucks for the rest of us who are just starting out and can't afford a few hundred dollars for a productive domain.

Everuone talks shit about the porn industry, but a whole lot of main-stream businesses buy up all the domains! hypocrites!

Yeah that's pretty simple for me. If i still like it, i'll renew... if i think i'll never use it and/or it was a mistake to buy it at the first place then i won't waste more money. Amazing how many crappy domains i bought last year and i don't drink nor do drugs
