    From hobby to Career ?

Question ? how many of you started out making / selling porn as a hobby and how many started out as a business with a goal to make a full time living ?

with me my site started off as a personal diary about me, before blogs became the rage and just grew into such a big thing that I had to quit my job to manage it full time and expand it.

    what about you?

    Full-time, since day one.

To me, a hobby is not something I'll make money with simply because I tend to lose interest or my appreciation for it - I am not a cash hungry kinda guy that always wants MORE.

Two fine examples are licensed automotive refinishing & computer hardware & system building.

I use to be obsess with making my car look nice (body always had to be in immaculate condition), changing the colour every 6-12-months, but not any longer. Now, I wash it regularly and that is that!

I loved playing with PC hardware and computers and I use to build systems for friends and family, free of charge. I took the time to research what hardware matched or worked best with specific motherboards so to ensure I did not build a crash-happy monster. I dedicated so much time and money to updating my system (mobo, processor, video card etc). I got so good at it, even the system admin here had me build for him and the company made it one of my regular duties (video boxes, servers, desktops/workstations).
Now, whatever - my personal system, at home, is still a third gen. Intel, under one gig.

An interesting point; some might say a hobby is a part-time leisure activity pursued for pleasure and is only likely to become a full-time money making business venture when it becomes apparent that it's a profitable venture. Others could classify hobbies as failed business ventures.

Personally I think money is the prime element, if it's money your after it's a business from the start and if it's solely there to arouse your libido it's a hobby.

Interesting response. And I would tend to agree with you.

My day job may be porn, but my CAREER is entertainment journalism. Porn is a part of that for sure, and I would never distance myself from it, but I consider myself a mainstream journalist more than I do a porn writer, even if the majority of my income is coming from the X-rated stuff... for now.

    My experience

I started out with a personal exhibitionist site (HotGayCouple.com) in 1996 with my boyfriend. We used Adultcheck AVS...once I got my feet wet, I expanded to a paysite going into a niche that we pretty much started (Young Latinos) in 1998 called EthnicBoys.com which featured my original photography shot on my trips to Central and South America. Later we opened another pay site (in 1999) called MiamiBoyz.com which is our main site to this day!

So to answer your question it started out as a hobby but quickly became a full time job over the first year and has been since 1998!
