    Gay.com Directory

I just noticed that someone is starting to spam the adult directory at Gay.com with affiliate links to paysites. It's very under the radar, but there must be sales potential there.

Everyone should take a look at adding their site before its too late.

We gave it a try last year and found it to be a total waste of money. They promised things that were never delivered. The staff changes over every time you call. I'm sorry... so-and-so no longer works here. They would also change the terms of the agreement at will without notification. It was really the biggest debacle I've ever seen. We spent thousands on their program and I now chalk it up as a learning expereince. We ended up getting about 600 hits for $5K.

Maybe they have their act together now, but it was a sad state of affairs last summer.

Thanks for the response. I was considering trying some advertising there, but now I know better.

We just cancelled an ad on the Directory after two months because we were getting virtually no click-throughs.

Ummm right....Sorry, you just brought up some bitter memories with their affiliate department and their affiliate gateway cj.com -- although I will say that they are finally serving up current promotions automatically, so now I don't have to find out about their current promos second hand. :gossip:

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

We've never paid to get in the gay.com directory although, we have had some success with a free listing in their Metro section.

We had a painful experience as well to the tune of about $5000 also. We approached them to buy chat room traffic and were told that we had to buy the local directory listing also...which was much more expensive than the actual banner exposures in the chat rooms, with about the same results...less than 500 hits. they give you i think 3 locales you can put your listing in, and for websites appealing to global markets that does not seem to be productive at all. sure they gave us a write up "fluff piece" as AVN often does to advertisers as part of the "package" but over all it was not worth it at all.

And they do have a high turn over in staff but alot of this is due to their growing pains with their acquisitions of various web and print properties.

They also are outsourcing a lot of their advertising sales out of the country so it's difficult to follow up with them, or get accruate timely stats reporting from them.

I think that ad dollars could be better spent elsewhere and get better results for the same money.

but then again, a link from gay.com to your site might be good for a relevancy boost.... !
