Just wondering what the preferred layout of a sites member area is when you are surfing an adult site.

    a) do you prefer a frames style layout, where the navigation would always stay on the left

    b) or a flat page format where you click and you wait for the whole page to load

Im a big fan of having both a top and a side navigation without frames, it makes the content a lot more accessible.

If you just have a top navigation, that means that every time the surfer scrolls down the page to view your content, they then have to scroll all the way back up again

    Regards,

depends on the site - how many choices it has and what the rest of the main member page looks like. our site has top navigation but it was a close thing since my partner originally wanted side navigation. i think the main advantages of side navigation are that people are used to seeing it and that it takes up some space if you're not sure how to fill some of the pages (esp the main member page). i think the main advantage to top navigation isn't it doesn't interfere with what is put on the pages.

Another idea is if you're building php pages is to do a header nav AND footer nav that are brought in with an include command. Makes it easy to adjust your navigation across the whole site with one file that way too.
