Weird referrers

I'm looking at our log files and am finding some very odd Asian-language referrers high up on the list. Here are some examples:

http://www.ponyking.com/bbs/viewthread.php
http://www.chunai.com/bbs/viewthread.php

Any idea what the heck these are and whether we should do anything?

They are hotlinking your pics.

Now you know, think about that for a second.. like that actually might be a super idea... because they might actually do something to them spammers... unlike other countries..

We get posted in a lot of the asian boards and it used to be a problem with hotlinking and such. We put Stongbox on the members area and use sofftware from antihotlinking.com to prevent hotlinking anything in our free areas. My experience is that htaccess was not very effective.

Some people choose to block all Asian countries. I think that is a little extreme. That is a lot of potential customers. I have found that tightening up security has been adequate.

Easy fix is to google 'tubgirl' and serve that JPEG for any image requests with no referer or incorrect referer.
