I Was Actually Disappointed With Narnia..

I remember watching a TV show about TCON about 10 or so years ago on UK television and i actually preferred that show over the movie.

A shame to, im probably not going to rent/buy the next couple of movies because of it

    Regards,

    Lee

you like KingSchlong better? (help me gauge where you sit with flics)

Lee - what exactly did you not like about it?
    - the story line changed too much
    - the heavy hand of Christianity (seemed too much like a commercial)
    - over the top acting
    - bad CG/animation

do not worry about spoiling it, at least for me.

    Havent seen KK yet.

You know, it honestly wasnt any single aspect of the movie, i found it to be slow running, there were a lot of places they could have sped up the action or, at least engaged the action a little better than i thought they did also, to me, the characters didnt seem to have any substance to them.

    Regards,

    Lee

SPOILER ALERT - IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE YET DONT READ THIS POST

It really could have been condensed in to a 15 movie.

4 kids walk in to a wardrobe, appear on the other side in a strange land, full of snow, meet a couple of talking animals, kill a lion that comes back to life, get in to a fight, all live happily ever after, walk back through the wardrobe to when they started.

    Regards,

    Lee

THEY MET SANTA CLAUS!!! AND HE GAVE THEM WEAPONS!!!

I saw this hunk of crap in the theatre and when that happened, I actually started laughing.

    My date loved the movie.

We didn't see each other again after the discussion that ensued as to why I hated the movie.

i haven't bothered to see it yet, even though i've read all the books in the series many times. you see, i saw the trailer. it was a gratuitously added piece of crap that did nothing to move the story along. it also added a piece of cheap dialogue from fenris. i also heard the white witch speaking and, from my point of view, they missed her character completely.

i have seen the bbc movie and, although the chronicles of narnia director said he was not basing this movie on that, it's obvious he did in some issues. one is lucy's entire appearance which had nothing to do with the book illustrations and everything to do with looking like the bbc actress who played lucy.

i will probably watch it in the near future - after all, what's netflix for if not this?

I read the entire series as a kid and re-read it just before seeing the movie and I think it failed because it remained true to the book. The story it is based on is pretty boring too.
What most people get out of the books that make them so great is the heroism of the kids, and that was not portrayed well in the movie at all. I hope they don't make any of the other books, they are almost all rehashed bible stories anyway.
    The Magician's Nephew=Genesis
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader=story of Elijah (the ending at least)
    The Last Battle=Revelations
and I forget what the others reminded me of.

I read the series when I was nine, so I completely missed the religious aspects and really sunk into the adventure elements of the story. It wasn't until the end, when they beat you over the head with it, that I figured out what was going on and got mad that I had bothered. Then I read A Wrinkle In Time and forgot all about it. I can't imagine kids enjoying this movie today, or taking the end that well. Do they put the whole series in one movie, or are there going to be sequels?

That was what was so captivating about the books: that you could get into the adventure without thinking about the religious aspects. That was impossible with the movie.
The next movie that is proposed is Prince Caspian, slated for December 2007. This one is much less religious though. It is not yet in production.

Well, looks like I'm the odd man out here, but I thoroughly enjoyed Narnia, and bought the DVD when it came out on Tuesday. I was a major fan of the cartoon movie that was out when we were kids, and I'd read the first book at least three times. I felt the movie really captured the spirit of the books, and was thoroughly impressed with the production design, the special effects and all the performances. It was slow to pick up, I'll admit, but that's how the book was too. They were back and forth between Narnia and the real world for much of the beginning of the book.

I can't wait to watch it again.

Actually, the movie has no "religious" overtones to it, only characters or situations that are symbolic of characters and events from the Bible. But there's nothing inherently religious about the Bible. Personally, I don't mind subtle messages about Christianity, b/cuz Christianity in and of itself, is not a bad thing. It's only the religous right that has taken the faith and bastardized it into something that's reputation has been tainted by extremists. I never felt as if the Christian allegories (which were, incidentally, just as present in the book) were hitting me over the head. I think the truth is that people are so skeptical of Christianity now that anytime anyone says ANYTHING about it, they have a knee-jerk reaction to it. But seriously... the messages in the movie are truly ones that we could all afford to live by.
