Channel 1 Releasing acquires All Worlds Video...

So…how do people feel about Channel 1 Releasing acquiring All Worlds ?

The news broke when GAYVN's Doug Lawrence posted yesterday at 4:26 PM Pacific…

With other studio mergers and takeovers in the works these days, it seems to us that folks are teaming up to combine forces in an ever increasing battle for viewing dollars…

Bigger and Better, thinking outside of the box or, more of the same…

It is a great strategic move for ChiChi! The purchase will give her control of one of the largest libraries of gay content in the world. As VOD/PPV and other direct to consumer distribution channels become the norm, this offers a huge base for revenue generation for years to come.

She's the Ted Turner of Gay porn! ;-)

This is not the end of mergers and buy-outs within the industry. I know of several other larger studios that are quietly for sale at the right price. The industry is going through a consoldiation as the gap between old-line/offline producers and new world online oriented producers widens. This is a critical tipping point in the histroy of the industry and it's tipping towards multi-media savvy companies like ChiChi's.

i would enjoy the opportunity to discuss "joining forces" with another gay studio, where perhaps the owners were at retirement age and wanting to move on. Give them my e-mail.

It is a very good thing that Chi Chi will represent the catalog of a company that she worked hard to build, and that the company saw fit to pass it on to her for safekeeping. I think it is good that there is a stong LA/Hollywood component to the Gay Adult biz - alongside San Francisco and New York.

But when I read the realease on AVN yesterday, it made it sound like Chi Chi started her work in the biz in 1990- .

I remember Chi Chi leaving us in Minneapolis in the mid-1980s for LA, and doing work for several other companies. I remembered she came home for the Holidays one year, and came up into my DJ booth at the club I worked that she used to work at, and had me introduce him/her to some new GoGo Guys who s/he promptly hired and did several movies with.

I remember back to the GayVN awards 2005 when she made a comment that it freaks her out that even when she's dressed, people call her "Larry" instead of Chi Chi!

And in the press release on AVN yesterday, the pronoun was "HE" not "SHE" was used !!! hehe

I've always had a soft spot for All Worlds movies. And we typically do a pretty good job at fully reviewing and marketing their wide scope of titles.
We can also do this because they quickly move their releases to their Video on Demand service allworldsvideo.tv... which is a pretty good product, but I think not very graceful in style or presentation.

I'm interested in what this means for the online presences of both studios. It's very difficult to market Channel 1/Rascal movies because their movies are not playing online.

For example, their big releases from way back to 2004, like Bolt, are still not playing VOD. That's one example on many; they've just stopped adding their library online. Wrong Side of the Tracks - practically all of Doug Jeffries Electro Video, Hole Patrol..... zilch.

Plus, as we've discussed on the board here before, their LiveAndRaw membership site does not seem to report sales and rebills properly - to the point that several webmasters have given up promoting them.

Compare that to Falcon, Lucas Entertainment, Raging Stallion, SX Video and Treasure Island - who release their products and make it quickly available to the online consumer market. They are just so much easier to market.

    Channel All Worlds

I give it another thumbs up...

The guys (and girls) at Channel 1 can give new life to a great studio. Mix a bit with what Channel 1 had done and you have a super gay company. In fact, really gay company. <smile>

We have a few companies that we believe are large such as Falcon but what has been missing is companies that can go head to head with larger straight companies. (playboy, hustler...). Although I love smaller studios it will be nice to start to see more mergers (we are always looking for a good buy too) that can leverge their size to push gay media harder and deeper.

No resort? 4.5 doesn't sound bad, better than here at least...

But, I would assume that the "partnership" did get the catalogue...
