    Technical Question

(Lee... if this is in the wrong area, Im sorry....)

About a week ago, I started recieving letters from our members stating:

When I try to download a movie in quciktime, I get a message "click here for Active-X control" When I click there, I get a "must shut down message."

We havent changed anything, so I assume Microsoft updated something.

Besides telling my members how to change security settings, is there any way around this?

    Thanks!

Do you have a link to the video so the user can actually download it or are you
using deprecated tags to try to embed the video?
My understanding from reading about the update was that it would affect only
embedded content, not downloading anything. I don't have any Microsoft
software in my office to actually test that, though.

If you're embedding the video in the page rather than linking to it, the simple
solution to this problem and a host of others is to just link to the video.
There are tons of problems that can come about when you try to embed video
in a page, but linking to the video is normally pretty reliable and portable.
If this problem occurs when users actually tro to download the video you
can try adding this to your .htaccess:
    AddType mov application/xdownload
