Anybody Know of Any Good Gay Doctors in L.A.?

So, I'm really looking to find a doctor who is either gay himself or who deals with the gay community. Apparently I cannot search by this via Blue Cross, my insurer, so I thought I would ask around and see if anybody on here who is in L.A. might know of any good docs. Don gave me one suggestion, but unfortunately, in order for me to switch to him, I would have to switch to a PPO plan and play a lot more out of pocket than I currently do, so that's not really an option. If anyone has a gay doc that accepts HMO, I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Unless you have a major chronic disease commonly associated with gay men, it will be hard to find one!

Health Care resources are dismal here.

I had a brief episode of Cancer in 1992-1993 caused by my exposure to 2nd hand cigarette smoke while in the niteclub DJ business, and had some awesome care at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis...

Here, I go to a Jewish doctor around the corner from me, tell him the blood tests I want, and he adds a few more based on my age, and I'm pretty happy.

A year ago, he put me on a prescription B Vitamin to work on my Cholesterol. A year later, with no McDonalds fries, I went from 250 to 189 bad Cholesterol., and from 35 to 70 for the good Cholesterol.

I have a very common little bump on my back, common to males. I had one removed 6 years ago for $250 in MN. Here, they want $700, because the Docs that do those also do all the Botox, Breast Augs, and Tummy Tucks...

That's pretty unfair to us men.

You could ask on Craigslist. People often suggest docs on there.
Isnt there some kind of community health center in LA?
In Boston theres the Fenway Community Health Center and in Chicago theres Howard Brown.

Its awesome having a gay doctor. I used to have one and I could talk to him about anything.
My current doctor is ok, but I cant be as candid as I could be with the gay doctor.

I found my current DR through referral and only afterwards did I realize that his practice advertised in the local gay magazines. You could try your local rags as well.

Having a gay Dr. has been very good and I feel very comfortable with him. When I had my first physical with him we had a long talk about various STD's, methods of reducing risk of transmission, and spotting symptoms in sex partners [easier to avoid an STD than treat one].
I don't think I would have been as comfortable discussing my sexual activities with a straight doc. Luckily I am not old enough to need the DRE yet. He may be gay and he may be smart but I still refuse to pay to have someone ram a finger up my ass.

Go through the ads in Frontiers and pick the cutest doctor with his shirt off. Or pick the one that's having a 10% Off Sale on lipo. That IS how LA queens pick a doctor, lawyer, plumber or locksmith, right?

I always get a kick out those those tacky ads for professional services in Frontiers! I even saw an ex-porn star advertising his services as a funeral director with a naked body in the ad!

I actually looked through Frontiers, but there were NO ads for general practitioners in there, only lypo surgeons. I was shocked. I will check in IN and see if they have any. You'd think with WeHo being so gay-centric, there would be TONS of docs advertising their services to the boys (and girls).

the Dr. they set me up with through Blue Cross is a complete moron.

After my motorcycle accident, I was having all sorts of nerver releated problems and told him I was haivng head aches, muscles spams and sharp joint pains.

His treatment?

"Yeah, well, these things happen."

He didn't want to do anything about it, but as soon as he found out I was gay he just coudln't WAIT to schedule an HIV test. When I told him that it wasn't necessary at this time (I've been with my BF for 14 years and all that), he kept pressing me to get one... saying "You know, there's nothing to be afraid of.. it's treatable now".

He then ordered a colonoscopy. Why? Never really found out.

But he asked me if I'd ever been "Heterosexually married", and two weeks later after I forced him to get me a CTScan and it came back normal but I was stil having problems with the what I think is a pinched nerve, he suggested I get my Girlfriend to rub my back.

I'll ask around too... this is fucking ridiculous.

The Gay and Lesbian Center had no referrals to give me. It's not part of their services. How insane is that?

Tony Mills is suppose to be a good doctor. He's a hot leather daddy who's got his butt parked on a bike in some of his photos. I know some people who see him and they all seem to like him. He's on Sunset in WeHo on the border of BH.

We like the UCLA system. And depending upon what ails you, they've got somebody for everything imaginable and more!
