A Question about Popups that lock up browsers

Why are there many, many porn sites that once you
click on one and decide to click off, another pops up
and another and onother until your browser locks up
and you must shut down your computer to get away?

Does anyone think that is going to sell anything. Would
anyone in their right mind join one of these sites.

Maybe I am wrong. Does anyone buy into these sites?

This might be the wrong place in this forum, but I think
it is a type of technical question.

I was not talking about just popups, I was talking about
sites that once you click off the site, another similar site
pops up and another, so forth, until your browser locks up
