It's official we're leaving SoCal. Yeaaaa!

It's official we're leaving SoCal. Yeaaaa!

Recently many people on the board have talked about new places to live. We've found it.

After months of talking about it, we finally made the trip up north and secured a place to live.

We spent just over two weeks in Portland and can't tell you how much we loved it. We planned on being there only for 4-5 days but couldn't bring ourselves to leave... Thank goodness for recurring and affiliate sales

We're back in SD just long enough to pack up for the movers. Goodbye forever SoCal!

A few pics from our trip:

Yep been to all kinds of places and our choice for now is the Pacific NW.

Cold is relative. We live near downtown San Diego a block from the bay and it's always cold at our place. At any given time probably 15+ degrees cooler than inland SD. Denver is bitter cold at times, and sometimes scorching hot in the summer. Portland is cool most of the time but yesterday it was 94 degrees... Anyway thats what they make fashionable clothes for...

Well, I wasn't going to be negative but since you asked...

Why move from "America's Finest City"? We moved from Denver to San Diego two years ago & quickly became tired of the social culture (very much a "me first" attitude with no regard for anothers basic human existence). The drab climate (desert with a dirty ocean) becomes tiresome, not to mention the litter (says a lot for the people that call this home). A corrupt city that finds it necessary to give themselves the slogan of "America's Finest City" kind of says it all...

Good for you on Portland. I knew one guy who lived in Portland and he said he loved it. I had 2 other firends who visited Portland and both said they wanted to move there. One currently has his house on the market in socal to move to Portland, so it sounds like an awesome place.

I remember listening to the radio once and a lesbian woman was talking about how she was in portland and accidentally hit a parked car and it just left a small mark, but the guy who owned the car came out of the bar and invited her in and bought her a beer.
She said what a place, you hit someones car and they buy you a beer.

Yep, in the short two weeks we were there we met people just like that.

We met more quality people in the two weeks we were there who we've already been back in contact with than we have in San Diego in two years.

We're really friendly people, but that only gets you so far in SD

Its not so much the people I do not like about CA. its the socialist stuff, poor pubic services, everything is over priced, and all these mom and pop restaurants ECT :hmmph: I am moving to Ft Lauderdale soon and I cant wait, I really hope to see a hurricane, some rain, a alligator, and a club that is worth a shit.

Good for you! I am seriously considering moving out of So Cal myself. I moved out here from NYC in '99 and lived in LA and hated it! IN 2002, I discovered Long Beach and fell in love with it.Lovely beach community with a great gay community. Very mellow, very laid back and very friendly But as with so many places that become trendy, the new breed of people that are moving here are rude, arrogant and have the "me" first attitude. No consideration for anyone but themselves. It's getting very tiresome. I have met so many pathetic people recently and so many people that will do anything to screw anyone over, we are seriously considering leaving Long Beach. We thought Las Vegas, but it seems to be just as bad. Current BF lives in Kansas City, which I actually love and am seriously considering. As the song from Sweet Charity goes, There has to be something better then this!

Congrats on finding a spot. Portland is a lovely city. And the Pacific NE in general is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I lived in Seattle for 14 years before moving to Asia and I loved it there. Be sure to make the trip to Mt. Ranier, probably the most beautiful spot I have ever seen.

Seth - Portland is a sweet arse place. Been there maybe a dozen times - Mt. Hood is 2hrs away and the beach is about the same or closer.

Skiing isn't quite enuf for me - I live in Colorado for the northern hemisphere winter. Love Colorado.

I've always thought Portland was beautiful, with lots of really nice people, and a great gay scene. Personally, I can't stand the rain, but that's just me

And I completely echo your thoughts on San Diego... I lived there in 1996 and 97 and came to the same conclusions.

For now, I love the area I moved to last fall, outside of Sacramento. Next year we're seriously considering moving outside the US, either to western Canada or to New Zealand

    Randy,

I've only visited K.C. when I was kid so I can't realy have an opinion on that and have never been to Long Beach. Visited Redondo Beach for all of a day to watch the final stage of the Tour of California pro bike race a few months ago... Seemed OK but a lot like the rest of SoCal.

I moved to San Diego from Denver shortly after the blizzard of '98. Blizzard was in October, I moved in August.

I love San Diego. I have lived in Golden Hill, North Park, City Heights/Azaela Park, Downtown and back to Azalea Park again. I loved living Downtown and there are times when I miss it... except on nights when there are a ballgame, a concert, a Saturday night or a holiday that constitutes drinking, like Halloween or St. Patrick's Day. Those nights, not only is parking a nightmare, but driving through the city is a chore.

That is why I am back in Azalea Park/City Heights. The neighbors are 90% gay, it is close to all major freeways and, more often than not, we are above the storms and marine layer. Just yesterday, it was BEAUTIFUL at my house. I took a short drive from University and Fairmount Ave to the Post Office on Midway in Point Loma (next to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot). The sky was so thick with the marine layer fog that I swear it was going to rain. However, when I returned hime, the sky was clear without a cloud in it.

I left Denver for San Diego and I love it. I do n ot see myself moving anytime soon. But congratulations on moving to Portland. I was there once and I couldn't wait to get back on a plane.
