Netiquette - Think Before You Post

As we are starting to see more and more 'drama' orientated message forums coming to the adult industry i thought it would be a good idea to go over soething that we should all be aware of - Netiquette.

The article below elains some of the basics surrounding posting messages on resource forums and more importantly, the effect that specific types of posts can have on your business.

Netiquette - Think Before You Post

As the adult industry has started to evolve even further in terms of marketing to webmasters instead of purely surfers there has been a sudden increase of the amount of adult webmaster community forums and resources that have been launched in recent times and, whilst many of thes sites will be a great marketing tool for companies looking o gain additional sources of webmaster trafic there is also a negative side to them.

    Marketing And Negativity

When done right negative marketing is a wonderous thing, often webmasters and companies can keep their name at the forefront of any number of message boards by creating innovative topics of discussion as well as a mixture of nothing but pure bulshit. That said though, when making your posts on various message forums you need to be aware that although you may think you thread is going to be a great addition to your marketing campaign, others may not.

    Think Before You Post

So when you start a new thread on these forums or in fact, even before you click the 'new thread' button do you consider the body and context of the message you are going to be posting in addition o the effect it will have not only on your but, also your peers and associates? For many webmasters the simple answer to this is no and, this is where they start to run in to problems.

    Topics To Avoid

With that said lets take a look at some topics which, generally speaking, should be avoided from being posted all together.

    1) Topics that are pure sig view threads.

As the increased number of message forums started t get bigger so did the amount of posters who sole goal was to have their signature seen by as many people as possible this in turn, led to fewer and fewer business and advice oientated thread and more threads with subjects who's only intention was to get people to click on the thread.

    2) Topics that are not relevant.

As with the sig view threads above we have started to witness more and more message forums being filled with topics ranging from what someones cat did that morning thru to how many times a day individual webmasters go to the washroom. Whilst this will almost certainly in the current climate on a few of the board get you some attention it can also draw away from the fact that you are serious about your business. This in itself may not be a major problem to you immediately however, after several posts of the same type of thread context many of the people reading your messages will start to have doubts about how serious you are and this in turn will lead to them not wanting to approach you for business building partnerships.

    3) Topics that are inciteful.

On some of the industrys message forums, as i am sure you are aware there seems to be a larger amount of postings relating to racist, sexist, and other inciteful posts. When this type of post is made on various forums, whether you kno it or not, you do lose business. Just because you may have 10's of replies in a thread belittling jews or african americans, what amount of people who have viewed your thread and not responded are marking you off their list of individuals not to do business with?

    4) Topics that are spam.

Whilst many message forums do have policies about OTA's (One Time Announcements) the vast majority of adult industry message forums do not allow these types of posts anywhere other than the designated Spam Boards. Keep this in mind when posting on any forum, would you rather make one out of place spam and lose a slew of potential clients or, make one spam post in the appropriate forum and gain a slew of clients?

    5) Topics that contain information you were not privvy to.

As of late there have been posts made on a wide range of forums about individuals and companies within the industry where the person making the post was not aware of the full facts surrounding the information thy posted. This in itself is common sense, if you do not know all the facts about something, do not post about it. You may not only land yourself in a heap of trouble but, could also be causing trouble for others without knowing about it which in turn, will hurt your business.

Message Board Netiquette - In Review

As mentioned at the beginning of this brief article message forums are an invaluable tool to both adult webmasters and the companies they represent, one post made by a sales rep on any forum can soon spread throughout the industry like a proverbial wild fire, if that post contains information that could be perceived as negative or hurtful to other individuals and webmasters or even, just being a post for the sole pupose of getting signature views or spams on the forums, this ill do a lot more damage than good to your businesses in the long run. In essence.. Think before you post.

Thanks Lee...always good to remember why we're here. Sometimes I just get carried away...suppose I better tone it down a little, let Chris out of the man-cage, give Don back his whip and back off the inciteful sexual innuendos for a while. Otherwise you might give me a good spanking! (sorry, couldn't resist that one)

You do not need to tone it down, Jason. Your refreshing and share business, life and love. Don't think you need to do that. Lee's article is an overall guideline, not a list of demands

PS: Chris is right, offline flirting isn't as much fun LOL
