Seen Thank You For Smoking yet?

We went and saw Thank You for Smoking last night. The film is witty and very funny, and would be a delightful film to take in over the holiday weekend.

For those working in the porn business, I would suggest that it contains an additional meaning, as someone who is often reviled or emotionally criticized for peddling porn and feeding allegedly unhealthy addictions.

Thank You for Smoking is about a lobbyist for the tobacco industry, who with his drinking buddy friends in the self-dubbed MOD Squad (Merchants of Death), alcohol lobby and firearms lobby, move through unending attacks from anti-smoking mothers' groups, cancer patients, assinine United States Senators and the press - and always turning lemons into lemonade.

The movie cleverly combines all of these characters to paint a fairly accurate commentary on Americans' unending demand for unhealthy behaviours, and how such activities may be taboo, but they are also quintessentially American.

I saw it and loved it. I loved the way the woman who lobbied for the alcohol lobby was always drinking --not just a drink in her hand, but _always drinking_.

My boyfriend really wanted to see it, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Luckily with the quick turnaround to DVD, we'll be able to rent it in a few months probably and will just enjoy it that way. Glad to know it is good, I have read the reviews and they were all pretty positive, but I tend not to always agree with critics anyway!
