How do you populate a new site with profiles?

I have a site Im building and I really like the concept, and I want to fill it up with profiles of guys who are into that niche.

Is there a way to populate a site with profiles?
I mean can you just buy a database of guys and use it to fill your site up with?

Since its a new site I dont want it to look empty,I want it to look busy.

Offer a beta period as soon as you possibly can and give those profiles 'memberships' for 1-2 yrs free. Be honest with them and they will start filling it up. Then when you feel you have anough of a lead, add in the payment system (i'm assumming you are ultimately charging for the site) and you're done

That iMHO is far better than batch import or fake profiles...

It depends on the rush

What I did with one of mine, was to advertise the site in the UK gay press for about 6 months before the site opened.

For that 6 month period when guys went to the site, it took their registration and told them "not long now, u´ll get an email when this is all done"

... meaning that ... people understood it was a new site, and when they got their "the site is now ready" emails a few months ago, all bar a few of the people logged in and instantly saw a busy site.

Which is cool. Depends if you´v got the budget to spend 6 months advertising on something that may or may not work or not.
