Google Personalized allows users to preselect areas of interest and then, once the results are in, to adjust a "slider" bar at the top of the page to make certain "personalized" results rise to the top.

I personally feel that for people that don't do much searching for lots of diffrent things then it will be cool, but for us folks that do a LOT of searching for god only know. I don't think I'd like it or use it.

From what it looks like, you don't HAVE to create a profile. So for people like us, we wouldn't have the restrictions.
I'm wondering how refined the results will be. There is a lot of stuff that show up under terms that do not typically relate to the search. I don't know how many times I've searched for something and found porn, herbal products and/or music (not all of it at one time) somewhere in the info that was returned.
Do you see this as a blessing or a curse?

Honestly a curse. There are enough places out there to search and I really don't see us all running to each and everyone to search with their site. I use google, and sometimes yahoo. I think they should just worry with making their searches work better and stop with the whole we have to create some profile crap.

google also came up with froogle
personalized searches and local directories are supposed to be the future of search engines, I have even seen articles that say ebay will be on top of the s.e. market in a years time since they have amazing results in these two technologies.
IMHO, I think google's personalized search is a bit basic to bother. Maybe after it grows up a bit, maybe if it starts learning from your search habits...but that is years away!
